I'm surprised quality and reliability didn't make the list. Those are two words GM can't tolerate.
This doesn't surprise me. Having dealt with engineers, they occasionally like to use hyperbole and use colorful language to try and emphasize a point, sometimes far beyond the reality.
The fact GM had to put out a document like this tells me they have such a problem with engineers who don't realize that using such language in official documents will come back to haunt the company later on. It's a shame when companies have to go to this extreme but some employees just don't get it unless you spell it out in black and white (not that engineers would be a prime example of that...).

A few of those words like critical and defect seem fine if used in context but if one of my team included genocide of you're toast in an official report, I would give them directions to the nearest exit.
