No wonder police officers, firefighters and teachers won't vote Hudak.

The governments sunshine list gets bigger every year, at some point we have to put a stop to it. Taxpayers only have so much money to lose off their paychecks to pay all these people. No wonder police officers, firefighters and teachers won't vote Hudak.

Not sour grapes. The private sector is actually the economic engine from which it's taxes (corporate and personal) fund the government. Public sector workers do not generate revenue for the economy, they take it. If there are indeed 100,000 Ontario public sector workers making over 100K, they take too much. No wonder our taxes continue to rise. The last time this topic was raised from the dead, it was finally realize that $100,000 isn't a lot of money, especially after so many members piped up that they were also included. There are far more people than firemen, policeman and teachers who make $100 G's, nearly a 100,000 in Ontario Civil service alone. I wonder how mnay in the private sector belong. The concentration on first responders salary, nationwide, by the author makes it clear that this is an agenda driven piece, basic sour grapes and far from balanced reporting.
As does the list of private sector workers making $100,000. Maybe you have heard of something called inflation? The governments sunshine list gets bigger every year,....
Pondering..........So lets fire all of the public service since they don't generate revenue for your economy and then see how things work out.
I think 100,000 of them is a good start.Pondering..........
Well we can not fire all of them, however
$100K for a public sector employee will look like a lot of $ to the average taxpayer who makes less than half that amount100k buys a modest middle class lifestyle. Enough to have a house and a car, some retirement savings, and an annual vacation overseas somewhere nice, but not too fancy.
It is hardly upper class. Upper class is when you are rich enough that you only work to alleviate boredom.
Teachers DO NOT get a pay cheque during the summer months when they are not working. It takes the Ont taxes of three of these average taxpayers to cover the salary paid to a teacher during the 2 1/2 months of the summer when they are paid but not working.
Given what's happening in Moncton right now, I believe police officers are worth every penny they are paid. That's one job where they literally don't know if they go home at the end of their shift. I couldn't do the job, and I suspect most on this board couldn't either. No wonder police officers, firefighters and teachers won't vote Hudak.
There are many jobs that are more dangerous - such as farming and construction. Heck even garbage collection is the 6th most dangerous job in Canada. Police and fire don't even make the top ten.Given what's happening in Moncton right now, I believe police officers are worth every penny they are paid. From the Macleans article:100k buys a modest middle class lifestyle. Enough to have a house and a car, some retirement savings, and an annual vacation overseas somewhere nice, but not too fancy.

...in Canada, where the average income is $38,000, and a $100,000 income puts you in the richest six per cent of the population.
I agree, or how many are public sector union workers......you may very well have solved the problem the Justin and Kathleen or even Sid can't seemed to solve. What became of the the "middle-class"The last time this topic was raised from the dead, it was finally realize that $100,000 isn't a lot of money, especially after so many members piped up that they were also included. There are far more people than firemen, policeman and teachers who make $100 G's, nearly a 100,000 in Ontario Civil service alone.
Of course it gets bigger every year. It stays at $100 000 without inflation adjustment. With 70% of teacher over $90 000 you will get a gigantic jump when they all go over at once. Without inflation adjustment it is meaningless. The governments sunshine list gets bigger every year, at some point we have to put a stop to it. Taxpayers only have so much money to lose off their paychecks to pay all these people.
Corrected you post for ya,...!!!For some people making good money in the private economy is great but making good money in the public domain is bad.
Naive, stupid or ideological. You choose.
Oh please...civil servants are not being picked on for their salaries, they are being picked on for what the rest of get for their salaries...less each year and a larger public service that the rest of us have to support. Do you need some cheese with your whine?Geez, like a lot og things out there, stuff like this cant be taken at face value. A lot of cops do double or more shifts, or get paid for guard duty. That really sucks for family time.
A lot of the civil servants on the sunshine list are in IT. Those numbers for them do mot even come close to what a similar private sector job pays!
Civil servants get picked on because their salaries are openly discussed. In the private sector, discussing your salary is a fireable offence.
Yes there are people out there who seemingly make a lot of money. Dont wish them ill will until you have walked a mile in their shoes.
