"Words like "ladies," "girls," "sweetie" and "dear" may seem polite or harmless, but they, too, undermine authority and impact perceptions about women's competence, says Son Hing. Their use fits into the category of what's called benevolent sexism, which attributes ostensibly positive, yet subservient traits to women, such as being nurturing or needing protection and special treatment."

Does this mean when we walk into a room full of women, we are no longer allowed to say "Good morning ladies"?

"You're looking nice today, your hair looks nice today too."

Later in the day she buys me lunch.

It largely depends on where you work. Or it might, in some cases.

Would you be ok, if a female called you “boy” in a lot of work place situations? I bet not.

I don’t agree with “ladies” but girls - yes, depending on how it is used. Same with calling a man a boy in certain circumstances.

“sweetie” is inappropriate for work and “dear” is usually used by old white cis men who think you as a little girl which usually means they treat you as sometimes incompetent or less than in some way.

So I can see some of these.

You will not be offended if someone said " Hi girl" to you ?

Call a man a boy and get your jaw jacked.

If a man is in a greasy spoon diner at 3 AM and a career waitress in her late 40's calls him "dear", "sweetie", and "honey" when she offers a coffee refill, or verbally describes the dessert menu, he probably leaves a bigger tip than he usually would, and he leaves feeling special, even though he knows she uses those words with every customer.

If a career man is in bar at midnight and a hot waitress brings him drink and he tips well and says “here honey”.

She probably thinks pervert.

There is/are a time and place. Learn them?

Can someone explain to me what the fuck is wrong with the word "Ladies"?
Nothing is wrong with words: girl, boy, lady, sweetie etc.

Walk into a room full of men and say "Hello men", you'll be looked at like a weirdo. You walk in and say "Hello boys" and you're being friendly. No jaws will be broken. Look down on someone and call a man a boy, then sure, you're asking for trouble by showing disrespect.

Not too long ago, girls and women wanted to be seen as ladies and addressed as ladies, went to schools for the ladies etc. Now, some gender confused homosapiens, convinced some of the population that every other words is offensive.

Stop fueling the fire and this whole "pretend to be offended" thing goes away on it's own.

Go south to Alabama, Texas, Louisiana etc and call the waitress a girl or the person sitting next to you at the bar a boy
Come back and report the results and don't pretend that nothing happened.
