Ok.......when are we going to admit this place is a collosal white elephant .
Complaints I have :

1) Baggage handling equipment doesn't work reliably .....it can sometimes take hours to retrieve your luggage plus checking in can be a nightmare when the conveyors aren't working ........which is frequently .

2)The moveable gates freeze up making it sometimes impossible to deplane passengers . Hello this is Canada didn't you guys think of this ?

3) Ok who designed that parking lot with the rollercoaster floors ?

4) I think it's approx 2.3 kilometers from F12 parking to gate 124 .

5) Do we really need a gizillion sq feet for AC domestic and international (excluding US ) .

6) Air Canada is there :D

Gotta agree. Parking in this place is a nightmare. The signage is horrible. I've spent up to 30 minutes lugging luggage around just trying to find my parking spot. I now look for airlines that fly out of Terminal 3. That place is easy to get around and the parking is close by. Terminal 1 sucks the big one.

James t Kirk: Get thee to a new job! The parking lost (lot) is an absolute nightmare. Lots of parking spaces, but spent more time trying to find my car than it took to get my luggage. Froze my ass off walking from the parking area to the check in counters. I really think the problem could be helped by better signage.

What was the idea with the floors....one giant speed bump area ? I try to park on the 7th floor or above just so I can be within a few hundred yards of the elevator ( which is cleverly hidden in one corner of the building ) . The exit is , of course at the other end completely . Driving in a 70 % empty floor at 20 km/hr you can get seasick . :D

Of all the airports and terminals I've been in recently this one seems particularly diabolical. It takes reasonably intelligent people and makes them feel like idiots by wandering around aimlessly wondering where the hell to go. As Train said, when I've been there, most of the amenties designed to speed things up haven't worked or haven't worked as designed. It is kind of a pain in the ass place to be.

Well, it hasn't colapsed on anyone's ass yet, so I guess from my point of view, it's a job well done.

As far as the signage goes, I really don't know who did the signage, it wasn't me, that's all I can say.

I was involved many a moon ago, and only briefly, but yes, the company I worked for was the consultant on the project.

I don't like the place any more than you, though I do like the new terminal sort of. It's better than the original T-1, but that's not saying much.

I find that the inside of T1 is actually fairly nice. When you're actually in T1 that is. Most of the time when I fly within Canada I don't use Air Canada any more as WestJet / CanJet / JetsGo are generally much cheaper so I still fly out of T3. On international flights when I do take AC I end up at that stupid temporary terminal way the hell out in the middle of nowhere (the 500 series gates). I don't see why AC couldn't just continue to use T2 for their international flights at least until the rest of T1 is ready.

I've only been in the T1 parking lot once and I do agree there - it's fairly difficult to find your way from parking to terminal to ticket machine to parking. Very poor design overall and quite surprising for such a new building.

Yeah, Toronto is the only airport in the country where you can catch a flight out of the country.......sigh

YVR if you're going east. But yes, YYZ and thus T1 has the majority of the flights.
Hmm, I guess that's why I had to walk to London from Calgary Airport last time had to go to England.

I know this is going to make me sound like an idiot, but the first time I used Terminal 1, the parking was so confusing that I ended up leaving the parking garage inadvertently! One wrong turn and you are stuck. And just when you thought you found a spot closed to the terminal, you realized the elevator wasn't on the side close to the terminal such as in the case of Terminal 2, but in the middle somewhere. I am taking cabs now. :)

Security is extremely lax at terminal One, you can walk into the domestic arrivals baggage claim area and take someone's baggage. When I mean walk into, I mean that you aren't a passenger and you're able to just go through the double doors from the "picking people" up area.
