A teenage male and the passenger of the vehicle he was driving are both wanted on warrants for first-degree murder in the New Year’s Eve death of Calgary police Sgt. Andrew Harnett.

Harnett was conducting a traffic stop when he was struck by an SUV that police say was fleeing the scene, in the area of Falconridge Boulevard and Falconridge Drive N.E., police said in a release.

Chief Mark Neufeld said Friday afternoon that Harnett was also dragged along the street, and that the driver would have known they’d hit and injured the officer.

Police believe Shah Muhammad was driving the vehicle, and that Abdulrahman was the passenger.

Global News is naming the 17-year-old as the Calgary police have made an application to the Youth Division of Calgary Provincial Court.

Neufeld admitted naming the youth was unconventional, but said the reasoning behind the decision is that both suspects are still at large in the community and need to be found.

Neufeld said the homicide unit has taken over the investigation, and said it’s moving along so quickly because of “exceptional police work” Harnett did before he died, which helped identify the suspects.

“He is helping us solve this and bring those responsible to justice. His commitment to policing and to his community, right up until his very last moments, are a testament to his dedication to the community and to service as displayed throughout the whole of his career.”

On Friday afternoon, officers found the vehicle the pair was driving, believed to be a copper-coloured 2006 Infiniti FX, in the northeast community of Taradale, thanks to a tip from a member of the public. It was brought in for forensic testing.

If they provide a reward, their relatives will turn them in. Look what happened to Bin Laden. Hopefully, their reckless driving will get them killed.

Both of them have turned themselves in. We'll see what happens in the justice system bearing in mind they are

Because the 17 year olds rights matter more
They COULD have done this the proper way
Naming him is not that way

You can make an argument AFTER conviction to name him and try him as an adult

But this was a knee jerk reaction by pissed off cops that one of their own was killed
They violated the accused killers rights because of anger

You actually said "fuck the police (glad he died)" how is it that naming a 17 year old driver who killed the officer not justified? You shock me TBH.
Then again, people will still keep voting for Trudeau who could literally drown puppies and be excused for giving them a bath. SMH

If they're not citizens, maybe they can be deported back to the shithole they came from. I don't give a f**k about their rights.

Apparently the officer was hit more than once
So its not even clear that the 17 year old kid actually killed the cop
The more news that comes out the worse this looks for how they handled this

Police said Harnett had pulled over an SUV in the northeast Calgary shortly before 11 p.m. Harnett, who was a supervisor and working alone, noticed that the plates on the vehicle did not match its description and decided to pull it over, Neufeld said.

Neufeld said the vehicle took off during the stop, hitting the officer and dragging him down the road.

A second unrelated vehicle was also involved and "may have come into contact with Sgt. Harnett" on the road, Neufeld said. He added the driver of that vehicle stayed at the scene and is helping with the investigation.

I'm guessing they were piss-drunk when it happened and waited to get sober before turning themselves in.

feel a lil sorry for them. partied too hard and ended the night killing a COP!! life's over at 17. prolly going to get their buttholes pimped out by native dudes in prison.

If the 17 yr old is tried as a youth he will likely do less then 2 years and those two years will involve all he can eat meals, meals which they have input in and they eat MUCH better then many Canadians do they get to order take out food, movies and video games all on the taxpayer dime

they are also here in Ontario ENTITLED to 6 meals a day and are entitled to eat whenever THEY want I'm betting its much the same there

if he is not a citizen then it will a sentence under two years so he isn't deported and the cultural excuses will flow because in his country the police are bad ect

here in Ontario they also keep "youth" in youth facilities until they are 21 so we have adult rapist and murderers with 12 year olds they should on their 18th bday ship them to adult
