I feel sorry for this guy.He must regret his entire teaching career in some way.To have some snot nosed 10-12 year take a shit on your name and then you get charged with assault for grabbing his arm and have your career end this way would bother me.

This kids parents must be real pieces of work. What lesson did he learn."You can shit on any authority figure you want sweetie..we'll back you up all the way"......they're not doing him any favours in life because the next guy probably won't be a 65 year old teacher.

Sometimes, it is necessary to cut the teacher some slack. The kid was pretty determined to annoy the teacher. This was one incident out of a career?

Kid was only about 10 at the time the incident happened. And the teacher is supposed to be a professional who deals with this type of behaviour in an appropriate professional way. Judge made the correct call.

Legally, needless to say you are correct Oagre. However, Scarey and Cassini make good points. If in my childhood a respected teacher had "lost their cool" like this and I had not suffered a serious injury my parent's first question would have been "What were you doing wrong" not let's file a complaint or bring a lawsuit against the teacher.

It is silly to convict someone of a criminal offence because of this. I hope the judge grants him a discharge. But it is quite clear, you are NOT ALLOWED to lay a finger on kids as a teacher, except to restrain them if they are being violent to you or another student.

I spoke with a friend of my sisters who is a teacher in his 40's and he had this to say(paraphrasing)"Teachers unions can be pricks though......this story is out there and i'm guessing he's gonna get no love for the next 5-6 years from his school teachers. No one will touch him, but one infraction and they'll boot him out over and over until he won't even want to come to class".......can't say I blame them if the parents are taking the stance they obviously are..

These kids should be sent to schools in Asia where 'punishment' is physical. And send that judge too !!

Being grabbed forcefully by a teacher was normal in my day. They certainly got your attention and kept it and you didn't tell your parents because you would get it then, because obviously you were doing something you should not have been.

The judge is a woman. This is what happens when you give women power.

Next thing you know, they'll have women in the army. I feel safer already.

Both the student and the teacher lacked disipline.
Unfortunately the strap was taken out of school some time ago, the reasons were many - too much use/abuse to parents not wanting their kids spanked. When kids act up in school (due to too much energy to problems at home), the teachers and principles lack the training/experience in controlling their students. Grabbing the kids arm and lifting him out of his seat (stress).

What is stress? My fav ans "Restricting the body's impulse to choke the living shit out of someone, who deperately deserves it"

But there are better and more effective ways to deal with a misbehabing youngster (goes back to training and ultimatly money). But alot depends on the parents today, do they have the gumption to disipline thier own kids? Or do they use school as a babysitting service.

A friend of mine has a husband who is a high school teacher. These teachers were told a few years ago never to walk down the hallways in school alone, always walk in 2's or 3's. If they did walk alone, they stand a good chance of some kids wanting to charge them with assault, sexual harassment etc. Kids today truly do not realize how lucky and spoiled they are and we must never forget that when we get older these "brats" are supposed to look after us.

How can parents decipline them when they are too busy getting drunk, or doing drugs. I'm on the side of the teacher. The young offender's act is a joke. The main reason why these kids are troubled is because thier home life is so messed up.

Here's a question to parents..... have reasonable parents ever grabbed their kids by the arm?

The loose interpretation of how a teacher is supposed to act is that they should behave like a reasonable parent.

I can see times when it would be okay to grab and kid and certain times when not. Unfortunately, the school system has little in ways to discipline kids.

I think the teacher should have thought about their career first. Get the kid out of the room and carry on with the class.
