as per CTV news...I personally think the development charges should be the highest. Let the home builders and new home buyers pay for adding more traffic to the city. I am TOTALLY against another HST and fuel tax. Bullshit!!

A one per cent increase to the HST
A five cents per litre regional fuel and gas tax
A 25 cents per day business off-street parking levy
A 15 per cent increase to development charges

so instead of taxing corporations that are siting on millions replacing workers with temporary foreign workers and suckers working for free they want to tax people who are struggling to make ends meet.

… and we've got Rob's property-tax hike coming as well. But that's not actually for new stuff like the transit MetroLinx is building. Rob's is just what he has to find to keep the lights on—streetlights that'd be—since the river of City Hall gravy he said he'd find to pay for everything turned out to be no more than a puddle or two.

Mind you his cost-cutters seem to have gotten rid of the folks who keep the files straight and make sure that new contractors don't dig up the sidewalks to 'fix' the water shut-offs that were moved people's front lawns by other contractors two years ago.

Not there'd be any money to fix the sidewalks that people use, when the road the Sacred Cars user' is still fulla potholes. But it's instructive to know Rob's standards for what a functioning city is are so low.

Yes.

I'm leaving Ont. soon anyhow, so I guess I won't end up being dinged for it. God this place is a joke.

Corporations pay capital taxes (over and above income taxes) if they are idly holding 'millions' (at least in Ontario), and those millions have most likely been taxed already.

the money wasted on the senate can be used to improve transit in the GTA
I woulda thought the other 33 million Canucks would want their fair share. I think that would bring the improvement money down to a coupla bucks each for us Torontony folks—something less than $3 each actually. Buying a ticket and not getting on the bus would do more good.

Still, it's more than Rob could think to find.

How about some real creative revenue tools. Say a 50% revenue tool on all salaries of all employees of MetroLinks. We could also have an elevator revenue tool on all elevators within the Metrolinks building. Come to think of it would also be appropriate to have a revenue tool on the use of the airs in that building. Also, how about a $ 1,000 per month revenue tool on all seats within the legislature on the government side. We could also consider a $ 2,500 per month revenue tool on Government MMP offices. Of course these revenue tools would have to be protected in some way so that the payee could not be reimbursed from the pubic treasury.

Here is an idea...get the people who use the Go train and TTC to pay for it.Raise the fares. Why should someone in Thunder Bay be paying for a service they will never use.
People in Toronto bitch about 905er's clogging the streets, well then pay for your own trains and buses.

my head swells up when i hear that as a car driver, i'll be paying for transit. and if i have 2 cars in the family and therefore use the transit less, i'll pay more! and this will be for a transit system that we haven't even voted on! here's a part of it that i don't mind but really, we can't afford: "Over 7,000 km of new lanes, trails and pathways for pedestrians and cyclists will make walking and cycling safe and encourage healthy lifestyles"

this is not a transit system they're building. it's a philisophical change. we in the suburbs now get rapid transit even tho we moved here to get away from it. tough.

if you really want to live without transit move to a rural area. suburbs are the biggest scam of the century

driving lessons in ontario are scams "instructors" only care about money and the company that owned the drive test centres delibrately fail students so they can make money by people paying to re-do tests

The rest of Ontario shouldn't be expected to pay for Toronto Transit. If you use it, you pay for it. in other words let the system pay for itself....
