So apparently now the bleeding heart liberal idiots want to take tasers away from Cops because a few deaths have occured... deaths that CAN NOT be tied to the use of Tasers (even the experts say there is NO proof there is any link).

So you take a NON lethal tool away... then what? Cop gets into situation where a Taser could have been used but is not available, so Cop shoots suspect - no other choice. Result - dead suspect instead of live prisoner.

What planet are these idiots on????

Of course there would be one benefit... with a few more dead suspects there would be less trials... money saved... hmmm, maybe it's not such a bad idea...

Yes some people have died because of tasers but vast majority have survived with no ill effects. In the incidents involving tasers if the police only had their handguns then I'd bet that a lot more people would have been killed.

Tasers might not be 100% non-lethal but they're more non-lethal than bullets.

(Hypothetically speaking) you've just been caught committing a major crime. The cop is a perfect marksman. He is equipped with a taser and a pistol. There's a 10% chance the taser will kill you, and 100% chance the pistol will kill you. Which do you hope he uses?

You only get one shot either way. Are you willing to die for that mistake?

If someone points a gun at me and I have a chance to shoot them first I will.

So I don't blame the police when if in the same situation they do the same.

As for the question on Tasers... I think the police should be allowed to have them. The % of deaths due to Taser use is very low. It's a hard judgment call IMO though when to use one or the other was my point.

We have a BINGO!!!!!!!!!!

years back I was trained on how to survive a gun attack. And for those who wonder if it works. Once disarmed the agressor is can we say toast. Bleeding is not as bad as dead. Now if we can control this option. I support it

In my original post I pointed out that there has NEVER been any proof that a death was a result of a taser being used. The reports that come out after a death usually say thing like "maybe", or "perhaps". I have not heard of a single death that has been PROVEN to be a result of a taser.

Can anyone cite a proven case??

Tasers

Rodney King was tasered multiple times with no effect by LAPD during the incident. IIRC, the first cop in his way was a petite blond chick cop. I've always had a suspicion that the ineffectiveness of the taser combined with the threat to a female officer sparked the beating.

Granted, he's an extreme case, but LE should have a variety of non-lethal and lethal means at their disposal, depending upon the threat and size posed by the suspect.

I saw a documentary one time on research into non-lethal weapons for riot control. My favorite was the diarrhea gun. :D

Well, they could've gone for the leg wound...

No, you're right. Given that it was 1991, all the cops had were taser, nightstick, and gun. They did the right thing considering the circumstances. It's just that some idiot next door happened to be playing with his shiny new camcorder. Since the Rodney King incident, LAPD has been spending a lot of time and money into non-lethal weapon research.

If tasers are banned, then cops will find something else to use, and someone will complain/sue about that as well.
