Hello all,

I have Bell Sympatico and am experiencing some problems. I think it is a minor one, so I won't call in the help line just yet. So here is the problem I'm having.

When I try to watch videos from sites, i.e. music videos on the Launch website, the video freezes, and audio is choppy. I did not have this problem before.

I know that traffic will effect my downloads, but I usually go on the net on the same time, and never noticed it being slow before. I have also cleaned my cache. I have also reseted my modem as per the manual.

Does any one know is this a problem i should worry about. I'm not really experiencing other problems viewing sites, 'cept it takes a little longer to load pages. Don't think it's a virus either since i'm careful with e-mails, and go to reputable sites.

Thanks,

1Hand

Check your video card drivers. I reinstalled Windows and had the exact same problem. Once I updated my drivers, everything was fine.

Do you have High Speed or Dial-up?

I have High-Speed, thru the phone line. But I have not done any changes to my computer. My computer is also about several months old so my drivers should not be out of date.

I've heard from a co-worker that he had his broadband stolen by a hacker. but i doubt that's the problem. I don't leave my connection to the net on when I'm not using it, actually i physically disconnent the line from the jack.

Try downloading from a stie within Sympatico. This will maximize the Router speeds. Compare that with a site outside of your providers control.

By its nature DSL is faster but only as fast as the slowest link in the connection.

tried to watch a nhl video recap on the sympatico site. No result. I did not have the problem with other sites i viewed before.

I will phone in sometime on monday or tuesday. If anyone else has any suggestions to remedy the problem before then, it would be appreciated. I will write back about the results.

Thanks

Must be a link for know problems

Most neworks are built with redundant paths. If on path fails another can be accessed. This is not to say that is a fast or even a desirable route to take. But it keeps them up.

If the bandwidth drops too low you will be unable to preform some functions, high speed downloads being one.

Check with ISP's site and look for known problems.

Well didn't get a chance to phone in the help line.

But it has been 2 days since i've been on the net, and eveything seems to be fine. The audio and video is not choppy or freezes any more when I try to wactch music videos on-line. So most likey just a problem on the Sympatico side.

Thanks alot to all that responded.

Even though, this can happen when you are on line by hackers sending a trojan keylogger to your computer; it may have something to do with what sites you visit as well. Either way, you can always run a system scan if you want to be sure, and/or change your passwords. Better safe than sorry.

Does anyone get bounced off Sympatico from time to time when you're on-line?

quite often when sympatico or rogers configure thier network (especially for newer serviced areas) they don`t quite get things optimised. Your best bet is to open a command window and type "tracert (destination website name or ipaddress)" this will give you the number of network hops that it`s taking your machinet to reach the destination site. Pay particular attention to how many hops it takes to get outside the sympatico network...anymore than 3 or 4 and you`ll have lag issues. If you have any techie friends get them to make the call and bitch sympatico out if you have to the last thing they want to do is a network reconfig but they will if you`re getting crap service.

Example of tracert command
