Do you need to maintain a Bell line/telephone and internet connection to maintain and access a Sympatico account? I am considering closing down the Bell line to the house and discontinuing their internet access....but still have a sympatico address with lots of contacts. So...wit and wisdom please....can one still maintain the sympatico address without a Bell phone/internet connection?
Many thanks

The answer is no. I suggest getting a gmail or ??? account, and let your contact know that as of (choose a date) your @sympatico.ca address will no longer be active. Be aware that people will still be able to send emails to your old address but will not receive a bounce back. Bell is no longer issuing @sympatico.ca addresses.

Thanks for this input...but want to clarify....I am using outlook and have the sympatico.ca address in outlook. If we cancel the bell service and someone still sends an email to the sympatico address.... will I receive it in my outlook? Hopefully, eventually people will be weaned to the new address, but until then....its business related and I don't want to lose the years of contacts thru sympatico.

No, once you cancel your Bell service you will no longer receive emails to your outlook but people will not get a bounce back so they will think you've received it. Get a gmail address and import all your contact into it and send them an email from your new address explaining the change.

Since you will still have all your customer's email addresses you shouldn't worry about losing contact with them. If they choose not to update their address book then there's not much you can do.

You can cancel your phone and have bell internet on a dry loop phone line but you do need to keep a minimum service level (which of course isn't cheap).

This thread is one of those life lessons. Here is a real life story from my company. Someone in our company had too much idle time on his hands so he decided to change the company's email address. What a painful process to advise all the relevant parties of our new address.
