A woman is in serious condition after a vehicle crashed through the front of a Mississauga store.
Police say a white Subaru SUV was heading west in the parking lot of Clarkson Village Shopping Centre on Lakeshore Rd. W. around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, when the driver lost control.
The vehicle climbed the curb and struck a female pedestrian before smashing through the concrete and brick wall of a HomeSense store, ending up inside the building, said Const. J.P. Valade.
The car continued on about 20 metres into the store, knocking over displays, as customers ran for safety. Police said no one inside the store was injured.
The pedestrian was taken to a Mississauga hospital with serious injuries.
The female driver was not injured in the crash but was also taken to hospital as a precaution.
It's not clear at this time whether the driver will face charges, Valade said.
Kathy Hooper, an employee at a nearby dental office, said she knew something was wrong when she saw a large group of customers suddenly rushing out of the HomeSense store.
"People were running out of the store. We saw someone grabbing his cellphone, then we saw the car in the store."
The car left a hole about two metres wide in the front of the building. A shopping bag carried by the injured woman lay on the sidewalk.
Peel police forensic officers remain at the scene, taking measurements and awaiting a tow truck to hook up a chain and pull the car out of the store.
Most of the plaza remains sealed off by yellow police tape.
