Today's Globe has the results of a poll conducted on both sides of the border, attempting to discover American and Canadian citizens opinions of each other.

In spite of the attempts of political leaders of both countries, and right wing idealogues, it appears that 85% of Americans actually like Canada. It also found that Americans are much more liberal in their attitudes towards marijuana than might be thought. Silly Time magazine, putting Ann Coulter on the cover of the Canadian edition. So much for the Idea that US media is left-leaning. Additionally the poll suggested that 78% of Americans felt that the state had an pbligation to prtect the poor and the elderly.

Perhaps the reason we have so many right wing idealogues bashing Canada
on this board is because no one is listening to them at home.

HUH I am a little confused on this post????
Which political leaders in the USA have bashed Canada? Please elaborate.

Why are you surprised that most Americans think that protection of the poor and elderly is important? The debatte was never about about if we should protect them, it was always about how.

What makes you think that Americans don't like Canadians? According to Rick Mercer we are a bunch of stupid hicks, that don't know where Canada is anyway.

Sounds to me, that you are not listening.

US political leaders didn't bash us directly, they used Paul Cellucci, a very effective "tool".

I HAVE been listening to the Limbaughs, Coulters etc but it seems theirs is a minority opinion of, dare I say it, grumpy old white men. ;)

We like you, just not all of your policies (why does that sound familiar?). Ann is a woman, perhaps you're both hard of sight and hearing.

I deal with Americans everyday. Some I would even call friends. There good folks. It's certain US Gov't policy I have a problem with. But I feel the same way about our Canadian Gov't as well. I don't trust any of them. But the people, there alright. It's the fanatics on both sides of the border I have a problem with.

Accordingly, if not for Mr. Bush, there would be no Bush bashing. Then the now-Bush bashers would have to find something else about the USA that they could complain about. It would undoubtably be related to that which they have no control over. Not being a Bush basher, I don't have a vote. It would be interesting to discover what (watch this alliteration) Bush Bashers would Bash if there were no Bush to Bash.

I can honestly state that if there was no Bush to bash then I would not bash Bush.

There are some issues with US foreign policy that transcend whoever sits in the chair but Bush bashing is based on Bush's and Britannia's brainless, bristly bunk in Iraq.

They would slice Rice, be disdaining Dick Cheney, and give the cold shoulder to Coulter (sorry, couldn't help myself).
