Is there a particular surge protector you recommend for an LCD TV and Home Theater?

Any issues with the coaxial cable protection function? Could it degrade the signal?

Thank you.

There are two kinds of surge protectors: little cheap ones that help regulate power but don't really protect devices and big expensive ones that work as advertised. Most people never have an issue power surges, but if you're worried then any unit in the $30-100 range is probably appropriate.

It addition to whatever surge protection you get you might consider getting a surge protector for your entire house. I think is about $300 and works off the main panel. It would protect everything from electronics to big appliances.

(On two separate occasions I have electronics take out. I have had a cordless phone and wireless router taken out during a storm. Once the phone line was hit and the other time it was transformer across the street. Shit does happen.)

Remember you get what you pay for. I've never experienced a damaging hydro surge living in the big city. If you are at risk at any time it's during a lightning storm for which there is no protection or when there's a blackout, big or small, and the power comes back on. Those happen. Also with the 'threat' of brown outs in the future, more exposure to damage will occur.

Most medium or high end stereo and tv stores will carry good quality serge protectors and can advise you. Depending on what you've got hooked up and the number of components in the system, expect to pay between $100- $300 for a unit.
What terrible advice. Yeah, let's listen to the people who recommend fucking Monster cables for every purpose under the sun. If you don't want to take the time to think about the appropriate specs, just buy the cheapest unit with a sufficient connected devices warranty.
