Anything related to an Olympics organizing committee is guaranteed to be a boondoggle.

Regardless, the Sunshine List is irrelevant these days. They never adjusted it for inflation so it's just a gov't publicity stunt.

I think they should raise the threshold to $150,000. Even at $150,000, it would still be a long list but it might eliminate some TTC workers.

Maybe I should do a poll and see how many members would make the list at $150,000. I think a few members claim they are in the mid-6 figures.

I'm fine with the concept of $100K but they should adjust it every year by inflation so they're comparing apples to apples.

Agreed the disclosure of salaries started in 96.

If you were making about 55k back then and was matching three percent inflation you would be making 100k today.

Similarly if you made 100k twenty years ago with inflation that is like 180k today.

I did a quick search for the education sector and found just shy of 3900 teachers (had 'teacher' in job title) that made this $100K list. The second highest paid person in the school board district where I live is a secondary teacher with a salary of $189,000. Who said that teachers are underpaid, again?

Cheers

That teacher and the others on the list wouldn't be classroom teachers (or if they are they must do more than their normal teaching duties). Classroom teacher salaries maxed out around 93k for a classroom teacher for 2015.

So, we have over 3,900 "teachers" in administrative positions not doing front line classroom teaching? No wonder we have such a huge education budget.

I'm guessing they're doing administrative duties on top of their full time teaching duties.

I can't believe that, their union would never allow it.
Here is something else to make you say hmmm. Sam Hammond, the elementary teacher's federation of Ontario union leader, had a salary of $185,662.43 in 2015. If the assertion that the classroom teachers salary maxes out at $93K is true, then what are these 3900 'teachers' doing on top of any classroom duties?

I thought teachers say they coach sports teams pro bono. Where is that extra pay coming from? The recent federal Budget will give teachers a tax credit of 15% (up to $1,000) for pencils and other supplies that they pay out of pocket. I

I suspect our school boards are simply "top heavy".

I think beside the person's name they should put years of service so that if we see a librarian making $118,000 with 24 years of tenure it puts it into perspective. I don't think anyone here thinks that $100K per year is chump change regardless. That far exceeds the average salary. I'm looking at all the professors who are making $200K+ it blows my mind. A lecturer from UWO making $153K. All I know is that my job equivalent in the public sector is pulling in anywhere from 15-35% more than what I make per year in the private sector. No wonder we're going broke, this is criminal!

I would guess teaching night school, summer school, and being department heads would account for most.

Hammonds salary is not from the tax trough. He should not be on the list. Union pays his salary.
