My current LG flipphone from Telus is no longer sold and i was told by them that a new replacement battery would cost $100.00.

I'm still shopping for my next phone (prob Blackberry) and was wondering if there are any cheeper alternative replacements so that I can keep my old phone going till I make the switch.

Thanks, ll

I did a search on the internet for my phone model.. and found batteries online for 1/3 of the cost from Bell Mobility.. they shipped up from the US, with no duty!

Thank you very much for your suggestions gents.

I was hoping to walk into a Toronto store and just purchase something as a stopgap.

Next decision...Blackberry or Blackberry Pearl....

Lass, get the special TERB Blackberry. It comes preloaded with all the escorts you can possibly see in a day, complete with pics, reviews, Google Maps, and closest last minute lingerie shops en route. The data portion will be expensive, because it's you after all, but hey, at least you're set up.:D

Gents, you're talking to an old Luddite who hardly understands the terms let alone half of the applications offered.

I really want the ability to access multiple email acts with ease and also do text messaging and regular calling.

And Mao, as a contributor to the data, one would think we can get some kind of compensating discount here...

Lass, if you are going to do more talking and texting than email I'd go with the pearl. A bit smaller to carry around and a nice looking phone.
Ladies seem to like it as well.

whats the model? you should be able to get an after market battery for no more than $40.00
You should be able to get a used phone for 40. Don't try to repair old phones. This should tie you over until the contract runs out.

Which brings me to another topic. In Canada we are being ripped off when it comes to cell phones. Recently my SO phone from Bell died. To get out of the 3 year contract would have cost 400 dollars. To buy a new phone the crappiest cheapest one would have been 180 dollars.
In the US I bought a pay as you go phone for 19.99.

Try the Sat/Sun Flee market on the old Downsview air force base - lotsa cell guys there - stuff is reasonable - can also buy unlocked anything there for reasonable prices -

As far a BBerry. I have had about 6 diff models over the years - the best has been the Pearl. it is sized right and once you understand the suretype there is nothing better - and besides - the camera is even quite good.
