I have no idea what kind of educational background most stock brokers have. But
I kind of doubt a MBA degree is the usual job requirement in a brokerage house taking
orders to buy and sell stocks.

You mean to much or to little education?

Retail investors these days seldom want to use the services of a stock
broker when buying and selling stocks online is more convenient
and cheaper. Occasionally I have to call up a stock broker due to various
unexpected problems. I imagine the broker assisting me would need no
more schooling than a bank teller. Stock brokers working with institutional
investors might have more demanding tasks to tackle than filling my
orders I imagine. I have no idea whether a degree in commerce is
generally required for these brokers. To my knowledge MBA is about
the highest level of education of most mutual fund managers.

Spend a few dollars and buy "Trading for a Living" by Alexander Elder... then see if this game is still for you.

Take the CSC course from CSI. Very informative.

I'm a big believer in trend following. I can point you to some resources if interested.

From the very little I know Canadian Security Course is not cheap. A relative
of mine had to spend something around 1K on fees and material for one course
I seem to remember.

I am under the impression that such courses are more appropriate for
professionals with the intention of upgrading and building their resume.
Based on my experience in dealing with agents and advisors in financial
planning and investing I am very skeptical of the usefulness of formal
schooling for retail investors.

It goes for around $1k. I recommend it for people looking for familiarize themselves with the Canadian financial markets as a whole. OP said he didn't want to drop $5k. A grand might be more suitable for him. If he googles around, he can find the earlier textbooks that might be enough for him.

I'm taking it to work towards a certificate in derivatives market strategies. Having the CSC and the DMS would allow me to work for banks / firms trading derivatives. So far, I've been trading for a few years and I've been drawn to derivatives. I'm also interested in fixed-income, too. Once I'm done the CSC and DMS, I'll probably dedicated some energy to learning bonds.

The cynical side of me wonders that if they truly can teach you how to make millions at the stock market why wouldn't they be doing that instead of teaching?
