Hi guys,

I tested for STIs at hassle free, but it is taking time to get results. It has been more than two weeks and I am still waiting. Is there anywhere I can get faster results in Toronto?

Thanks a lot

I just told my family doctor that I want to get tested. Went to Lifelabs same day and results were available on their website in 3 days.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if one can get tested at LifeLabs anonymously? Do they ask for id?

Just FYI, no news is good news at Hassle Free. It takes two weeks for the turn around with their labs. If you've heard nothing by now, you're clear for the STIs they tested for you.

I never understood the need for anonymous testing because of this fact. No one can be given your health info.
I think I understand where this fear comes from, when I see couples going in together to see the family doctor. I find that totally absurd, but to some couples it may make sense.

If I need to see the doctor, either I leave my wife at home or at the reception. No way I'm taking her with me, and it's not about STI or something I want to hide, it's just my privacy.

I guess it depends on why the couple is going in. We don’t know why. Maybe they are looking to try for children. Maybe one has cancer and the other is there for support. Maybe one is the primary care giver and therefore handles the administrative side of the medical issue. There are plenty of reasons to go together and plenty to go alone.

I go with my bratling, my parent, and have been in with my partner when I was with one. Both for him and his issues as I had the recordings of the episodes and symptoms and for him with me as he saw pain and symptoms with me that even I wasn’t picking up on. It helped with both of us getting diagnosed. I handle my parents care and for my brat - it is about support as they are a young adult and still navigating their way through advocating for themselves.

I see reasons for both privacy and support.

When you are getting bad news you need a second set of ears...cus the one getting it just shuts down and doesn't hear anything else.

just curious, is it common for family doctor to deliver bad news? I have no experience in this, and always thought it would be either emergency room or specialists who discover something "big"

Sorry for digressing from topic, and not trying to be a dick. I just have less experience in dealing with sickness (thankfully)

Depends on the situation. A relative got the news of something fatal. It was quite clear in the results of the test. Of course a specialist was called in but more for a second opinion then an actual diagnosis

not really, they need your health card. Its your personal health record, no one should have access to it anyways.
Unless the regulations have changed, if a health care provider get a positive test for certain conditions (STI’s being on the list), they must report to the Health Unit, who follow up. A friend of mine went in to a clinic thinking it was anonymous, but they reported it and the Health Unit followed up with him. Including asking for confirmation that any other sexual partner has been advised (they offered to tell his wife). That is why the “anonymous“ and “hassle free” clinics don’t require health cards.

That is how it was pre-COVID. Have the regulations changed?

This. Plus my so and all her friends are in health care.. never know what she/they have access to. Back to the question at hand, is there anywhere other than hassle free clinic that tests anonymously (without requiring id) and provides results fast?
