I think I'll call the hotline and tell them just how happy I am that they've privatized garbage pickup. At least they won't hold the city ransom by going on strike each time they don't get their way.

My mother is in an extra bad mood today. The garbage hasn't been picked up yet - the wonder of privatization.
I like how they never setup a hotline when the whole city was unionized. Ferguson says he wants new workers to be held accountable. Yeah right, I can't remember how many times I've had to call the city over the years complaining about his "unionized workers" blocking the sidewalk with empty bins, broken wheels on my bins, cracked compost bin, compost bin thrown onto my flower bed, trucks failing to move over on my street to let cars pass when there's plenty of room to do so etc. Oh, there was that garbage strike that I haven't forgotten about either. Now that private garbage pick-up west of Yonge Street is in full swing in Toronto, the union which used to handle the job is speaking out and hoping you will, too.
Underlining contracting things out still means taxpayers are subsidizing garbage workers salaries, CUPE local 416 head Mark Ferguson says they've set up hotline that will allow residents to report what he calls shoddy service and dangerous driving.
Ferguson says he wants new workers to be held accountable.
He says it's been documented in other cities and countries that keeping services like waste removal public is better for residents in the long run, from cost to quality standards. He says he's worried other services like water will soon be handled by private contractors.
The number for that hotline is 1-866-419-2227.
