squeaking in my car.... help it's driving me crazy

every time my car flexes, going around a corner at speed, or driving over uneven roads, it starts to squeak and squeak. not the biggest deal, the car is 8 years old and that's pretty much the only complaint i have about it. however, to me squeaking it among the most annoying sounds on earth. it reminds me of finger nails on a chock board!

i think the noise is coming from the door seals getting too dry or something like that. so i used some armoral on them the other day, but that seemed to make it worse :(

any tips from terbites?

thanks.

Noises

Observe when the squeaking occurs. If going around corners, could be a wheel bearing. If squeaks when going over speed bumps, probably a suspension bushing. You'll have to determine under what conditions the squeak occurs to pinpoint it's location

Get a friend to push on the fender of the car vigorously and listen for noise outside. Try all four corners of the car pushing down for noise. If you can not hear the noise outside sit inside and repeat proceedure. most common noise is suspension(Shocks or spring/leaf).

get it checked out

Could be almost anything in the suspension. I once had a auto that squeaked and squeaked, everyone thought it was shocks, turned out to a dried up rubber mount, if it had broken off, I wouldn't have been able steer the car.

Most places, like Speedy and Midas, even CTC will look at and give you a better idea of whats up.

never use armorall!!!!!

Opps....... I am not a slave to armoral but I have used it and products similar to it in the past.

Why should I not use it and is there a better product that produces the same results?

Sorry don't mean to change the subject but I am curious now about the ill effects of armoral.

Thanks

Seems there is a novel way to find the problem. I hear many cities now have MECHANICS. These in many cases are people who are competant when it comes to fixing vechicle problems. Try a google search and see if there any any of these people located near you. With the upswing in mobility, I bet you might find one within 100 miles

gargamel was right about you. you do need a kick in the ass.

the suspension is an interesting place to look, whoever said bushing might be onto something, because the squeaking is a rubber sound, not metal on metal.

for those who asked, it's a vw. from what i read online the doors have been known to squeak so that's why i assumed it was the seals. but who knows.

Ummmmm since the poster can not find it, my bet fixing it is not there either

What kind of car is it? Some models have a list of probable suspects for these noises.

You may want to listen carefully to make sure it's not from the driver's seat - if that's coming loose, it could launch you in the event of an collision or hard stop.

Don't rule out minor nuisances such as door hinges or even interior trim, especially on a GM or Chrysler.

I am soooooo sorry for this...

but you have to club the baby seals to death before you use them as wheels.

Yewah right you still have to pay them and they never seem to find the problem. I had a similar problem with my Mazda Protege. AT first I Thought it was:
the tires, unbalanced wear
brakes
suspension
Balanceing rod on the rear,it was actually broken fixed it but problem persisted.

-- then realised it happens when I turn

the power steering belt was causing it at weird times. Like temperature, humidity, how hard I turn and so on. I thought it was loose.
Bought belt dressing from CTC and the problem went away.

I'll add my two cents since I am a shade tree mechanic :D

Go to a car site and look up squeaks in the technical section of the bulletin boards.

For example, I own a Buick Grand National, so I visit sites like www.turbobuick.com to look for technical information.

If you are going down the road in a straight line on a rough road and your car "squeaks" you may want to lubricate the hood stops. When they dry up, they can squeak away.

At the range!!!
Sway bar bushings can squeak on turns and bumps. Graphite spray lube will do the trick. If you know what the sway bar looks like you can find the bushings quite easily.

This is what mechanics are for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes it's tough for mechanics to discover the source of these problems if they are not familiar with that particular type of vehicle.

It's quite easy to rack up a big bill and not have the problem solved or be told it's normal for these type of small annoying problems, so one should examine cheaper possibilities first.

Since your vehicle is made up of thousands of parts it could be just about anything. I know a few mechanics and they hate this type of thing as they can spend hours trying to find it and only get paid a flat fee for whatever the problem ends up being.

My suggestion? Turn up the radio, that solves a tremendous amount of problems! *snicker*

thanks, xix that's exactly why i'm posting this. i guess all the people who flamed this haven't had the frustration of losing your car for a day or two just to get something small looked at, and then having absolutly nothing done.

the last time this happend to me my trunk latch was sticking. i took it to my garage, told them lets replace this. i came back they 'said it didn't stick for us.' that night i drove to a cottage, couldn't close the trunk, or set my alarm all weekend. i was totally pissed.

what i've found these days about car servicing is too many guys are just using the diagnostic computers, and not common sense. if my guy plugs my car in, i doubt it's going to say "code t234: squeaky bushings" hense i posted this question.

Hey T dot, I agree. Many are now "parts specialists" instead of true automotive repair experts....
