Barely a peep about what looks to be the arab spring spreading to Spain. .....are the western politicians afraid it will spread further?

Because it was the Spanish Socialists who were hammered in the regional and local elections on the 22nd.

Secondly because it is not seen as likely to lead to shooting in the streets.

Why not? The Spanish have quite a long history of shooting in the streets and political violence. Couple this with a youth unemployment rate of 45% and you have a powder keg waiting for a spark.

Indeed they do, however, I don't believe that many believe that the spark is about to be laid to the fuse, however stranger things have happened so perhaps you are right.

Now of course from the "nuts left" point of view the fact that this all has to be laid at the feet of a Socialist Government. . . .

Then again as already said the conservative People's Party hammered the Socialists in the regional and local elections earlier this week.

The socialists have ruined Spain just like they did with Greece. Europe is a powderkeg, just read Mark Steyn's America Alone. It's predicted these events.
