I want to install the sound card. but I need to disable the sound signal that is sent to the mother board sound card. how do I do this??? Please be as specific as you can be. Thanks in advance.

In windox XP

Start -> (right click) My computer -> properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager ->
Sound, video game control -> Audio Controller (right click) -> disable

Put in new sound card - load drivers - you should be good to go.

Ok...there is no audio controler under sound video and game. I have the following:
Audio codecs
legacy audio driver
legacy video capture device
media control device
and video codecs

all of which I have right click and there is no option to disable.

Probably why your existing card isn't working.

Go ahead and install the new card and drivers.

It should be ok.

You should disable the onboard sound card in the bios. Reboot and hit delete then look for the option to disable it.
