My laptop has a password protected file in My Documents where I store information that I don't want others to see.

It just notified me that it was full, so I went to the Sony manual and saw that it has a 2 Gb capacity, but has no additional info to expand its size.

Can this be done? Or do I have to download the contents to a protected hard drive?

No big deal, but it's just easier to access the My Safe folder on the C drive when I need it.

not sure if you can expand it but an easier solution than getting a HD would be to get PGP Desktop Home.

If you do travel to the US with your laptop be warned that if they for the password you will need to provide it to them. Not just for PGP but for the Sony password protected files as well.

Best way to avoid that headache is to have a spare HDD that you install before going on trips.
You can opt for the free route with TrueCrypt.

Both PGP or Truecrypt are excellent encryption offerings.
