I went on a scuba diving vacation alone last year. Had a great time. Its easy and fairly inexpensive to get your scuba certification in some places.

I have travelled solo many times, I find this way you do what you want to do. Also, I've made many friends all over the world that I still keep in touch with today. I really don't think it matters where you go really....just how you do it. For instance, I always stay at hostiles.....you meet hundreds of people there and it makes travelling that much more fun when you form a small group of people that have the same interests and therefore willing to travel to the same locations.

My best experiences so far are from Austrailia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Israel is beautiful this time of year!

OK kidding don't get mad!

I've done lots of traveling in my time. If money's no object, go to south Italy or the south of Spain. If you want to hobby, maybe go Brasil for warmth, Eastern Europe (esp. Hungary from what I hear, Budapest is supposed to be really happening, and the girls are very sexy), or the Philippines. Personally I love India a much as any place in the world, but I don't know about hobbying there, I know the women are sexy but have no idea about the scene.

Lucky guy.

I think a week at celeste's place might be a trip to remember too.

In a very dark place
I prefer holidays alone. We still do all the facade happy family vacations but I have the most fun travelling selfishly by myself. Thats my adventure holiday time. Just got back from one taking almost two weeks. Luckily for all my "fans" on TERB I was able to access the net every once in awhile.

There are pluses and minuses to the alone travel that you need to deal with but on the whole you can concentrate on the trip and always find " shopping" distractions when needed.

I really enjoyed traveling to China on my own. Very cool to see, not at all like the western countries. Many pretty ladies, lots of dates, lots of escorts, sex, sex, sex, sex! I had no problem find a hot chinese girl to tour me around in english (and blow me at night).

Cuba. I'm surpised no one's mentioned it.

Great for hobbying or not, it's up to you.

Weather's pretty warm this time of year. Also, it's huricane season.

Here
As an American, anything near the Middle East or Cuba is out.... LOL!

The BEST vacation I ever took was a cruise. Seven days of alcohol, sun and women I was never going to see again. I came home with alcohol poisoning, a respiratory infection and a happy pecker. Seriously without any doubt the most fun I've ever had, because you are isolated without TV, cell phone, computer or anything and you WILL meet people easily.

The second best trip was going to Russia for 10 days. Its not for everyone, and its not easy, but well worth it.

The last was Costa Rica, I went white water rafting through the rainforest for 3 days, then 3 days seeing the country a bit. Breathtaking.

I really want to see Prague, Budapest and Bucharest next..... so if anyone is up for an adventure.....

If you're not American, one of the best places to go in your situation, whether you want to hobby or not, is Cuba. Period.

I highly recommend travelling alone. I prefer it. Just do it intelligently. Don't wear anything expensive or flashy (jewellery or expensive clothing). People will know you're a tourist, but at least you won't look like a rich tourist.

And in Cuba, you won't even have to worry about that... the crime situation is practically nil. You can go to virtually any city, party like a rock star, walk home drunk at 4am and not worry about crime if you're reasonably intelligent.

There are pros and cons of travelling alone, with wife, with wife and kids, with secretary, etc. My next objective is wife and secretary, though it is proving challenging to arrange.

For travelling alone, I suggest Las Vegas and Los Angeles. There is so much to do, hobby or regular, that even if you do not want to meet people, you will still not get bored. Not as exotic as most of the places suggested so far, but safe, cheap (to get to anyway) and covenient.

its also really great for reflection, ive done some of my best soul searching when im out in the world alone... oh and i always appreciate the people i do have in my life a little more, like 'wouldnt it be great if so and so were here, they would love this'.
Exactly.

I've done solo to 9 US states, Singapore, HK, Tokyo, Brussels, LDN, AMS on my own. Mostly in my 20's & 30's. It's a lot of fun if you have a plan & what to see, to resist the temptation of watching pay-per-view in the hotel room.
You never know who & what you'll meet & experience.

Life is a journey. Have a good trip.

way out in left field
I've only once ever gone somewhere with a date/gf and while there have been some amazing times and I too have met some really great people it can get lonely at times if you don't happen to meet up with anyone.

I have found that if you go somewhere say Puerto Vallarta, take some of the excursions. I took a boat cruise/scuba/horseback riding trip and met about 20 people that I partied on and off with for the rest of the week. My first couple of nights there were lonely cuz it seemed like everyone at the resort was coupled off.....and the two really hot cougars I met by the pool left that night. (one was travelling with her mom and her mom met me at the pool bar and invited me over lol and afterwards said she'd wished I was there all week to keep her daughter "satisfied" cuz she was bored lol).

Yup, the freedom is nice but after travelling so much alone I eventually found it tough to see something amazing and have no one to share it with....
