Not yet.

There is a bill that's in the works that will bring enforcement but for now, you can breathe easy. AFAIK, the max amount of damages would be $5,000.

FYI, the bill is called C-32.

Forget p2p.
Hollywood and the RIAA record Nazis are doing their darnest to fark them up. Better off with torrents or Newsgroups. Newsgroups are your bet bet since they are still legal but have to pay a small subscription fee to use.

Torrents are p2p. And p2p, torrents, newsgroups, etc are all legal. It's the downloading copyrighted material that is illegal.

give up P2P and start using usenet. if you really want to use torrents you can (a) use btguard or (b) pay for a seedbox, use that to download all your torrents and then transfer to your computer using ftp.

It is not a simple matter of alleged pirating or copyright infringement. These people violate our privacy on our own machines and have been known to incriminate innocent people. I for one do not want any one to know what I have on my machine, and most importantly, my private information.

Got one one time from Cogeco on behalf of Comedy Central. My son had downloaded a Southpark episode using a torrent program. He didn't realize that it was running in the background sharing the file out.

They simply asked to remove the materials and inform them of the actions. Sent the reply to Comedy Central about what had happened and what I did to correct it and got a polite thank you from them.

Because I have a buddy in Buffalo who got those 'warnings' from his ISP about movies he was heavily DL. His ISP threatened to cut off his Internet service unless he stopped DL as he was. Well he stopped DL completely and now gets all the movies he wants from Netflix by mail.
Now he just makes all the copies of the Netflix DVDs he wants. He says he now gets perfect copies 100% of the time and never gets bad poor quality files like he used to when he was DL them.

Linux has a default firewall plus my modem has a built in firewall.
Never had any problems here. Linux is far more secure than M$, This superior security is what sold me on Linux.

Read that Mint is good for graphics but haven't tried it yet. Used openSUSE for awhile to see what KDE was all about and liked it. Then went back to Ubuntu preferring the way Gnome is laid out over KDE.

And yet, there is development work on a Linux based Peer Block as we speak. I hear what you are saying, but I think that no system would be immune from these spies, unless measures are taken to stop them. My concern, and it is NOT with any copyright infringement issue, is with the spying that is going on without our openly knowing it, despite the firewalls that we both have installed. I have two firewalls, as you do, and still they intrude on my machines.

Yes, Mint is great and it is easier to install and run than Suse, I found. I never got Ubuntu to run on any install I have tried. But, I will look into the latest version to see if I have better luck. Sorry, I am an engineer, but not very good at computers....... or as good as I would want to be.

Normally, I'd agree but many of the content owners (not the creators but the corporations) are totally fucking clueless with digital distribution and selling.

I'll simply opt out of that nonsense and pirate.
