So Mirage told me not to call them again...

Called them at 6:40pm to make an appointment for 7:15pm, and was given the location. Messaged them at 6:44pm to cancel once I realized the hotel is a pretty undesirable one on Rideau St. Assumed it'd be a nice hotel/condo since it was Mirage, but this hotel is not up to the usual Mirage standards and I'm not really comfortable going there.

The person who emailed me back wasn't too pleased, and I explained that the hotel wasn't in a good area, and it is rather sketchy. She then told me that the hotel isn't bad, and that it's not a bad area. She also told me to book else where.

Does this mean I am blacklisted? That would suck since they are the only good agency in town lol. I didn't think it was unreasonable to cancel 4 minutes after booking, it's not like I sat on it all day and cancelled at the last minute. I also thought they would appreciate some honest feedback on the location. Maybe I'm mistaken but I usually associate this hotel with pimps and BP escorts, not a reputable agency like Mirage.

Just thought I'd share to see what people think. It was pretty upsetting and kind of ruined my evening. What's worst is if I can't ever book at Mirage again since they are the only reliable agency around here.

I doubt they blacklisted you but give it time before you call back, unless you know they have relocated.

They just said to book elsewhere if you couldn't accept the location.

Not that I'm defending Mirage, but because I once had to cancel also, I noticed this paragraph on their website: http://www.mirage-entertainment.cc//ottawa-schedule.html

If that rule was taken absolutely gospel, cancelling within that 1.5hr window is forbidden, despite you booking four minutes before. If we continue to take the rule as gospel, I imagine that every booking within the 1.5hr window is "final sale" or else you would be blacklisted. That's a bit extreme, but perhaps Mirage can chime in and offer their viewpoint.

I'll stay tuned to see how this situation turns out. Fingers crossed both parties will come to a mutually agreeable resolution.

Hi Cowboy,

I would think that their 1.5 hour advance notice for cancellation rule is reasonable when someone has booked much more earlier. The fact that the OP was able to book almost on demand means that cancelling 4 minutes later would very likely not amount to missed opportunities for Mirage.

Fair at best hotel. I wouldn't have gone either. Good job. Perhaps it will help convince them not to use that hotel going forward.
.
Also, it doesn't sound like they really had a serious problem with you. Just telling you to book elsewhere doesn't seem like a big deal and not a long term thing

Not sure what the reason for the prejudice against those hotels is. Those places usually have their own entrance ways into each room, so you don't have to go through a lobby, which I'd think is desirable.
Go walk around Econolodge on Friday or Saturday night after 9PM and you'll know why.
