Jeopardy?!Who knew?...
Anyone running for mayor next election should run on the promise to throw every last one of these cameras into a big pile and burn them all to a crisp. They would win the election in a landslideWell if people see them they slow down. Go figure.
But it's a cash grab, plain and simple and the threshold is set to next to nothing. I've even heard the threshold is 0 km over. There's one near where I live in a 40 zone and I always make a point of checking my speed, but sometimes you forget and then realize after you've passed it and go, "oh fuck".
I'm surprised more have not been lit on fire or shot out even.
The number of tickets issued is not surprising to me. There's a lot of stupid drivers in this city. And by stupid, I mean ones who don't notice the signs posted ahead of the cameras that say "Municipal Speed Camera In Use." The smart ones also use the WAZE app that points out every speed camera in the city.Well if people see them they slow down. Go figure.

Nobody is in favour of speed cameras on the 400 series highways. Especially since the speed limit of 100 km/h is too low for the design of the highways and the fact that today's cars are much better in every respect to those of the 70s. Remember, the speed limits were decreased in order to save fuel, not make the highway safer.^^^^ I remember Mike Harris ran on exactly that. "No more photo radar".
But the mentality of the people of Ontario and I suspect a lot of people are in favour of them.
Im actually in favour of red light cameras as I really hate all the red light runners (ironic because I got a red light camera ticket myself. But I remember when it happened and I fucked up and I knew it. But I paid my fine.)
I read that since the city of Toronto implemented the photo radar, the city has issued 340,000 speeding tickets. That's incredible!
In addition, I've noticed way more cops manning the old school speed traps in the west end. Like every day. I wonder if the the police are a little threatened by technology making them redundant?
There are now even cameras watching the cameras. Spooky, huh?Well if people see them they slow down. Go figure.
