Asia starts at the Darda in Turkey.

Why do you think the region is called the Middle East.

Yup. Asia is one damn big continent.

You wouldn`t be considered stupid in the States.
Hell, most USA adults probably think Darda is a new line in His/Her pants
to compete with their bluejeans!

Hardly. I find ESCO's pithy and "rye" sense of humour adds greatly to any debate. Once something gets too far into the realm of philosophy it fogs the mind of us simple people and anchors like ESCO have their way of refocusing such that the 90% Stongbeau referred to are not left out.;)

It's just that I associated Asia with China, Japan, India, etc... Didn't realize it extended that far west.

So, technically it would be correct so say that an Iraqi is Asian....

Not sure why they list Egypt there. It's in Africa, and even the title says Northern Africa.

At the same time you are kinda right. Yes technically Iraq is part of Asia but most people refer Iraq as being part of the Middle East.

Again, you're being too hard on yourself, western Russia (I think up to and including Moscow) is still considered part of Europe.
Russia is included into European qualifying by FIFA and not Asia.

Did you know countries like Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico.....etc are officially considered to be part of North-America??? Its true, see here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America

But in practice everyone thinks of them as Central America, so its really irrelevant what the textbooks say.

Well, culturally it is so different from other countries that we usually think of when we think of Asia, its not surprising that there is at least momentary confusion around the point. But if you think of it for more than 2 seconds, what continent did you think it was part of? Europe? Africa?

Good point. For most people, Middle Eastern countries are not strongly associated with Asia, just as Central American countries are not associated with North America. Both the Middle East and Central America can be thought of as regions belonging to their respective continents.
