I got it through work. I'm going to use it as my main smartphone for the next month, maybe longer.

I'd love to hear from the Android users here, what's the best practices for Android, what's the best apps, the best widgets and so on.

I use my iPhone for podcasts, scheduling (calendar and to do's), email, RSS, Twitter, SMS, GPS and as an alarm clock.

So far, this is what I have installed on the Nexus:

Twicca - Twitter
Doggcatcher - podcasts
1password - Manage passwords with my Mac
Brokerage app - Lets me access my account with my brokerage
Camera Zoom FX - camera app
ES File Explorer - file manager
Google Reader - RSS
HD widgets, beautiful widgets - widgets (don't really like them)

Thanks.

You said you don't like widgets and I don't use many of them myself, but the calendar widget in ICS is one that I do use.
I also have a "Home" widget for the GPS. The built in GPS is awesome so you don't need to look elsewhere.
There's a few good video players. MX Video player is pretty good and it can just about anything you throw at it. Mobo player is pretty good too.
I don't know ES file explorer, but I use astro which I find quite good.
ezPDF reader is excellent if you use a lot of those.
Evernote is a good note program if you like to save it for access across multiple platforms. One thing that I wish android had an account based note taking program (I could use google docs, but I'd like just something really basic).
I soundhound a lot. Basically the same as shazam.
I also use tunein radio a lot.

If you find the volume too quiet, get from the market an app called Volume+ FREE by Meltus. The external volume sucks and it's getting a lot of complaints, hopefully it's dealt with in the next update. In the meantime this software does a nice workaround.

Oh, and your favourite app, flash player was just updated to work with ICS.

I don't like the look of beautiful and HD widgets. I'm pretty fussy with visuals. Yup, you can call me an snob in this area.

I use the stock email and calendar widgets, tho.

Yup. It's great.

Thank you.

ES File Explorer is very Windows Explorer like. It was spoken highly of on XDA and Android Central.

Got it during the 10 cents promo on Android Market.

http://www.andronoter.com/ - It works with Simplenote. I use Simplenote on my Mac and iPhone/iPad. I use this app on Android, too.

I soundhound a lot. Basically the same as shazam.
Also got Soundhound Infinity during the $0.10 cents promo, too.

Did you know the app dev provides the full copy for free on his website?

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I installed it and tried it. It's still a piece of shit. Navigating through video timelines is so painful compared to HTML5 video on iPhone.

I'm not into most widgets, I really don't need to see the time and weather graphically every time I look at my phone, but the one widget I do love is Atoma RSS with images turned off and transparent theme. Not sure if it works well with ICS.

And ssssure the phone was for "work". lol

I have Titanium Backup Pro (paid), Root Explorer, ES File Explorer, one game (plumbing), measurement converter (forgot the name at the moment, phone not near me right now).
Backup SMS, SoundHound, , think that's it.
