The prediction for Toronto is anywhere from 15-25 cm by Friday evening. If you have all season tires, please do us all (with winter tires) a favour and stay home or take the TTC.

It drives me nuts when I get stuck in traffic because some idiot with all seasons can't make it up a hill. :frusty:

I also dropped my tire pressures down to 28 PSI for extra grip. I'll bump them back up once the roads are clear again.

I've got snows on my truck but not on the car. I was planning to; after 13 years of driving RWD cars I've learned that even a 1cm dusting would leave me spinning. But, the Michelin all-seasons on my FWD seems to be working fine.

I figure I'll just subway tomorrow. My 15 minute commute easily turns into 60 min in bad weather. You assholes just stay off the passenger assistance alarm and let me have my 20 minute ride in peace!

A few years ago, I came to a hill where it was covered with about 20cm. of snow. There were about 6 cars that tried to make it up the hill, but had to back up and park at the bottom. I came along and a guy tried to wave me off. I took a short quick run at the hill and powered up the his with just a little difficulty. I had snow tires, I am sure that everyone else at the bottom of the hill did not.

Snow tires are an investment in safety. It also prolongs the life of your all season tires.

I don't give a shit if they can't get going, I hate it when they can't stop and -no homo- rear end me! :eyebrows:

I tell my boss you said I could have the day off.
Excellent idea. :)

Yeah, that too. There's a 30-40% difference in stopping distance between all season and winter tires. You're at the bottom of a hill waiting for the light to change and the all season idiot plows into you 'cause they simply can't stop.

Ill be watching for you guys outthere with your all season radials
For going up a hill...stay to the shoulders...find a spot where you can get grip...and FFS'.....DON'T SPIN THE TIRES!!!!!!
low revs will prevent spinning
I ll try and keep the roads clear enough for ya....be safe guys!!!!

I personally have never found a significant difference between snows & all seasons, at least when new. This is especially true with ice. I had a 4wd truck with larger snow/mud rated tires that became uncontrollable once I hit a patch of ice.

Your personal experience is countered by unanimous conclusions, based on scientific research and testing. I understand that "Mud and Snow" rated tires are much different than "winter" tires. The rubber is much softer in true winter tires which results in better traction.

I don't understand why some people think revving up will get them out of the snow...it's actually slow running vehicles that grip better.

I was an "All-Season" tire guy for over 20 years. About five years ago I decided to go the snow tire route from Nov-Apr and have been very happy with the result. While I believe that the push for legislation to require all vehicles in Ontario to have snow tires is being championed mostly by the tire industry, the bottom line is that we probably would have less winter accidents if everyone had snow tires.

And you eskimos don't know what real women look like!

ROTFL!!!!
Tires are part of the equation for sure.......gear down(even in auto transmission) to better grip the pavement.
Unless you have All-Wheel Drive not sure if anybody is getting anywhere fast in a foot of snow.

No driving technique nor the number of wheels driving can overcome the breakdown of traction where "the rubber meets the road".

Even hard rubber hockey pucks get frozen before the game.

That is true, but too many drivers use technology as a crutch rather than develop their skills.
