Snow and Ice

I have so much snow and ice on the roof that it's a f*cking joke.

I notice major icicles on new houses, old houses and middle age houses (20-40 years old).

What's the deal? Can anything be done to prevent this....we can't all have bad insulation?

Do I just chalk it up to a heavy Canadian winter?

Correct me if I am wrong... but isn't the snow & ice piling up on the roof an indication that the houses ARE properly insulated?

Think about it... if the snow/ ice was melting, that would seem to indicate a heat source... if the heat was not escaping, the snow wouldn't melt!
