Question:

Has anyone ever had dinner at Sneaky Dee's On Bathurst and College? If so what do you think about the Mexican food they serve...?

Me personally I go every Tuesday with a friend of mine for dinner right before work....awesome food....kinda funky looking little bar...a great way to save paper since you can draw all over the wall LOL ;) just curious to know what everyone else thought about this place...!

In the laboratory.
Something tells me that Sneaky Dee's is now going to be invaded every Tuesday night by middle-aged guys jingling the change in their pockets.

Used to go quite a lot but not as much in the last 10 years.

I'm young enough to have played a live show there upstairs, and old enough to remember drinking beers at their old Bloor Street location.

I know 3 things about the place:

1 Beer and breakfast is good and cheap there.

2 Eating anything with meat in it there is an iffy proposition.

I love Mexican food and 3 their food ain't Mexican.

If you like Mexican food, go either south to King Street and try Jalapeno, or go north past Dupont and before Davenport and try Dos Amigos. Decent Mexican at both places, although not nearly as good as the real thing (just can't get the best ingredients in Toronto).

I think I may start going back on Tuesdays.

Moet, this is where you should have hosted your party-that-didn't-end-up-being-anything-more-than-pathetic-guys-showing-up-to-find-out-the-party-was-cancelled-party (one of those guys being me). If it was at Sneaky Dees I probably would have stayed.

Tex Mex from hell.

Actually it's not that bad, it's just not anything like authentic Mexican. OK t's pretty bad. Beer and nachos are safest bets, and brunch is quite good.

The offers to meet are obviously where Moet cuts things off (metaphorically).

It's all good! (Unlike the food at Sneeky Dees.)

Can we say that? Anyhow it's Tuesday and I've got to go to my favourite Mexican restaurant. Got rid of the change. Hole in the pocket:eek:

Sneaky Dees is great. Although be wary of ordering the draught beer. I don't think they clean the lines very much. But as far as tex mex food goes it is pretty good. Had lunch there today, 1/2 price fajitas!

There's lots of quasi-, semi-, and just plain nausea-inducing-fake mexican around ---

(I made the mistake of eating at Tortilla Flats a month ago -- OMG was that disgusting -- Hint to Chef: YOU DON'T PUT GARLIC IN GUACAMOLE!)

Anyway, here's a list of decent Mexican from Now, I would add Jalapeno on King St. but with the caveat that appetizers and Margaritas are the best there:

Sneaky Dee's is ok and cheap, but really its more of a bar than a restaurant. I really don't know where to go anymore these days for good Mexican food.
My personal faves are El Sol on the Danforth (West of Coxwell) and Plaza Garibaldi also on the Danforth at Logan (a couple blocks west of Pape). Plaza Garibaldi used to give you a free shot of tequila after your meal sometimes but unfortunately they lost their liquor license a little while ago and are trying to get it back but the food is very good there regardless!

Does anyone remember the Mexican restaurant, the name escapes me, that was located at The Village on the Grange?

The ceviche was incredible and the gazpacho soup was made to order. It was the best Mexican restaurant of it's day and there has been no place like it since. These days going the the VOTG only brings sadness, that fabulous restaurant has been replaced by a mundane fish and chips shop.

Real tex-mex cannot be found in Toronto, the ingredients are not found here.

It's an amalgamation of Spanish, American and Indian cuisine, and the best place to find it is Albuquerque, New Mexico. That city is to tex-mex what New Orleans is to cajun.

I like the place. Pretty low key so not the place if you are looking for something classy.

They used to have a good hip hop night there but that was years ago (on the upstairs). The bouncers used to be indy prowrestlers not sure if they still are. Breakfast is a good greasy spoon type place.... for after a night of partying.
