I searched and found that the last post on this subject is over a year old.

With Christmas coming up, is this a good gift for someone who does a lot of travelling?

How does it work, if I'm sitting in a far away hotel room with wireless access in my room and I want to watch an NFL game, for example?

Thanks,

I got one last year as a gift and I've used it a couple of times when I was out of town. A couple of things you should know :

1. The slingbox needs to be hooked up to your home tv cable box AND you Internet router. It could be a problem if your cable box and router are not in the same room. For me I had to used a Powerline Ethernet Adapter to hook up;

2. You need to have Internet access to watch tv on your laptop; I also have the Rogers Rocket Stick and it's handy;

3. You can watch any channel that you subscribe to your cable company, but when you change channel on your laoptop, you also change it on the cable box at home, keep that in mind if you have set up a timer at home to record certain program. I use a hard drive recorder but I'm not sure if you can watch two separate channels if you have a PVR.

Hope the above will help.

Another thing to consider - The Pro HD model needs at least 1.5 Mbps upload speed to stream HD. Many ISPs around here don't even offer this to residential customers (actually I haven't found one that does yet for a reasonable price).

You may want to try to get a less capable model to save some money. I have the Pro (previous version to the Pro HD) and it works great
