I can't STAND Windows tiles (8.1 and in the upcoming 10).
I don't like the keyboard of the Macbooks, too flat, not enough feedback (it's like pressing down on a few tightly stacked sheets of paper), whereas I LOVE the keyboards on Lenovo and Dell - little concave, great to type on.
So I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place now.
Get a new laptop, slap on Linux and hope that Photoshop works well in WINE, or go for a Mac, but deal with their crappy keyboard and very tight ecosystem which some of it is based off of Llinux to begin with.
Although I have tried the 11" Air and do like the overall feel of it, but not quite sure if I'm comfortable with the screen size.
(yes I know a 12" Air is rumored to come out)

Microsoft really blew it with the tiles in my opinion, but, they knew they had well over 90% of the world hooked onto "Windows" and well, once you're hooked, that's it.
So it really boils down to Linux (Wine) or Mac (really hate the closed off ecosystem and their keyboards).

As for tablets, I agree, I don't like tablets one bit myself. When I was a kid, yeah sure, looked they looked great on TV, but in reality, no thanks.
I got an iPad mini as a gift, sold it as soon as I could. lol

ALTHOUGH, it's hard to find and get now since the new line of Nexus tablets are out, but the Nexus 7 (2nd gen) was the PERFECT form factor, fit in one hand comfortably, the Android OS was beautiful.
It had a stunning screen, insanely fast.
If you ever come across the need for a tablet and you can find that Nexus 7, get it (get the one with the camera on the back, that's the 2nd gen).

I an option regarding windows laptop. If your comfortable formatting the computer yourself. Try to find a hard copy of windows 7 and install that. As far as the macs go. You can pickup a nice bluetooth keyboard according to your liking in terms of the key "feel". Linux with Photoshop using wine might be hit and miss. Wine doesn't play well with all windows programs.

This is what crossed my mind, along with a bluetooth keyboard. My concern would be drivers if there would be any at all, in case i were to get a "touch based" screen, which I am no fan of.
But the Surface Pro 3 has caught my attention, but installing photoshop is not possible since it's all cloud based it seems.

Install linux and just use gimp instead of photoshop?
I'd like to go that route, but the learning curve on photoshop was hard enough for me and I'm very comfortable and good at it. Scary what I can do now after years and years (15+ years) of working with it.
I'll look into what kind of filters and what not Gimp has available, worth a shot and your mentioning it will make me delve a bit deeper. Thanks.

Hi Tesla, I don't know about Gimp. I know what it does but if you've invested the time to use/work with photoshop stick with the software. Gimp being open sourced might lake a feature or 2 that you use alot and if it's missing then what? And you will have to learn that interface all over again. But I might be wrong, I say give it a shot. As for adobe why don't you try lightroom? Not enough features? As long as your device ie laptop/tablet etc even a smartphone is concerned. Bluetooth is Bluetooth obviously depending on the version the keyboard or tablet/laptop is using I don't see any issues. Always do your homework

as a side note, Can't you pick up an external dvd drive and try that to install it. As per laptop shouldn't be an issue either

Good luck bro,

You can just install one of the many start button programs to get a normal desktop mode for your win8 laptop. Win8 laptop + classic shell (or similar program) = feels more or less like windows 7.

Let's get this straight...you're using Photoshop on anything less than 15 inches? Are you an idiot or what?

Ok...now that that's over with...here's news for you...OS X's features are based off of UNIX...not Linux.

All right...why not do what I do? Put your Windows laptop on a stand and get a great standalone keyboard. If you have a proper desk then that is the smart way of going.

As for Windows 8.1 tiles...I don't even bother with it. I've been working with a killer Windows gaming machine for almost a month now and I never touch tiles. (Explains why I have not been on here...weird stuff with Windows and work.)

I recently purchased a tablet with Windows 8.1. I hate it. Plus, I hate using the tablet. It is just too weird.
I got one with android and also hate it, the damn thing is too small 7'. I bought a stylus from dollarama and things are easier

I'm trying out an NP 7" now. I like the small size because it is so easy to carry around but it is hard to use because fingers are too large for the screen. My bank gave me a pen with a black rubber tip and after

Out comes the fanboy, ready on full out attack.
I didn't say whether I was doing heavy or light editing did I? Btw, it's light work, not heavy. For that I'll used my 4yr old desktop PC which has an SSD and cost me a lot loss than any of your MBP or MacPro setups and is pretty gosh darn fast.
I also mentioned I wasn't sure if 11" would be comfortable enough for me as a screen size. But hey, I appreciate your consistent fanboism.

You're entirely right about the learning curve, I suppose I'm just trying to make up excuses to stick to Photoshop and Lightroom. lol
I've seen some work done on Gimp and was quite impressed. I installed a copy today and will tinker around with it later in the week.

It's not fanboism when I LOL'd at someone using less than 15" for PS work.

Now that you admit that it's just light work then go for GIMP on a Linux machine.

People like you, unreal. I really shouldn't feed [trolls], however, but here you go. You yourself use FCP correct?

Read the guys blog
http://www.idownloadblog.com/2013/11/30/why-i-love-the-11-inch-macbook-air/
" I do graphic design on this machine, render videos from Final Cut Pro X and bounce hour long podcasts from Logic Pro X. Many of these tasks are accomplished while out and about, away from the power plug."

I could go on and on, ask me if you must see.
