What do you guys think of my sister who wants to name her daughter "Genesis"? She asked me to ask people on the Net, many people have told her not to do it. What do you think?

Criteria for a name:

1. The kid must not be mocked in school for it.
2. It must be easy and unique to spell (no stupid variations like Aileen,Aylin,Ailyn,Ayleen).
3. If people decide to cut it short for easiness it must not sound bad, in this case if the kid is named Genesis she will be called "Geni" (Jenny)

The name Genesis is Latin (or Greek) for "The Beginning". It's both a boy's and girl's name but more female.

My sister gets the same negative trend on the Net from other women, but I want men's opinions on it that's why I posted it on TERB.

PS: I have never heard of the band Genesis, and neither has 99% of the people out there, so it's really irrevelent if the names coincides with it.

you have never heard of Genesis, the band? Have you been living with your head under a rock? Genesis was one of the largest Progressive Rock bands, and it spawned Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel. Shit, I must be getting old.

As "unusual names" go, it's far from being the worst I've heard. Then again it isn't Ruth, Rachel, Sarah, Phoebe, Sophia, Natalia, Jeanette, Jennifer etc. . .

Reminds me of the First Book of the Bible.

...and 80's films Star Trek II and III...who can forget Ricardo Montalban as Khan in II, or the Klingon who wants the secret to "the Genesis torpedo" in III? lol.

Khan: Admiral...I'm waiting...

Kirk: "Here it comes."

Khan's lacky: "Sir, our shields are dropping!"

Khan: "Raise them!"

Khan's lacky: "I can't!"

[Priceless look on Khan's face]

Kirk: "Fire!"

Yes, G. Paltrow took the bad name prize for this decade with "Apple". Lucky for Noah when he arrived on the scene she didn't call him "Orange" lol.

Think of the pick-up lines she'll have to deal with later on though... "Hey baby, wanna work with me on a genesis project and make something wonderful?"

Lame, but aren't they all?

Kid will be called Genni

Good or bad?

If I could get used to Jagger and Jaden for my nieces kids names, you could get used to Genesis. And guess what. The names work for the kids.

I have no problem with it. So long as the mother is required to have the word, "MORON" tattooed on her forehead. ;)
