Rumour on Sportsnet is that the Leafs are trying to send Allison to Boston for Leetch straight up.

IMHO that would be a bad trade. I know everyone thinks Allison is too slow but Leetch is too old. He was too old the last time we got him.

I have seen very few people that can handle a puck like Allison and the way he controls the puck down low is amazing to me. Now that he is actually starting to shoot the puck occasionally I'd like to keep him.
I am in total agreement with you. We do need a good defense men, but to trade Allison would be a big mistake.

i totally argree as well. I mean we already have McCabe and kaberle to be the offensive dmen. What we need is a big stud or two back there. I too dont mind Allison and love as slow as he is how he makes those nifty little moves to hold onto the puck. Hockey experts called it the panic factor (or something like that) and his is very small. Im thinking many times Id have dumped it away to someone but he holds on to it and makes a good play somehow. They arent paying him big bucks but they have a log jam at centre so if they can get a good solid dman (not Leetch) for him or another centre go for it

Eric Cairns would have been nice... but we would've had to dump payroll in a few ways first.

same with:
Greg DeVries... an even better 'D' but way too important to Atlanta..
Brendan Witt... another tough guy that logs alot of minutes
or maybe Barrett Jackman in St. Louis is expendable...

either way the leafs are stuck... they have $0 room to play with.

when will Leaf fans wake up and realize MLSE doesnt care about winning a cup, its been close to 40 years of the culture of mediocrity, you draft terribly, you sign over the hill players and as long as you get a few playoff dates here and there, the board of directors at MLSE get their bonuses and the fans keep filling those insanely over priced seats, nothing will change

the way to do it is from a Devils in the past few years or the Sens this year perspective you get the crap kicked out of you for a few years but you draft really well, you add on a player through free agency every so often and you have a serious run at the cup, come on Leaf fans please tell me even if you do get the 7th or 8th playoff position, what will happen? you will have the stuffing beat out of you by Philly or Ottawa (yes this is finally the year)

Did anyone notice when the Leafs went on their modest 6 game winning streak Jason Allison was out of the lineup while the speedier, harder working John Pohl was in his place? Jason Allison has a negative plus/minus despite having the second best points on the team. In other words he is a liability on the ice with his slow foot speed.

the Devils of a past few years would do nothing this year... why?... they played to defensive of a trap game... doesn't work with the new rules... in fact, Wayne Gretzky said the new system was to eliminate the boring New Jersey style of play.

the Sens probably won't do it this year, either. though they are a strong and well stacked team, they haven't changed their system from the beginning of the season... smart coaches know how to easily beat this team with weaker teams themselves *the Sens are 5-4-and 1 in the last 10 almost the same record as the struggling leafs at 5 and 5...*, some of these smart coaches ...(Wilson, Ruff, Babcock, Sutter, MacTavish, Hitchcock) and among others can beat the sens with much less than what the sens can put on the ice each night in regards to talent... If the sens can't update their style, then they will perish in the post season... could very well be the leafs that do it too... so don't get too cocky. i'm not saying either way, cause i still think the leafs have to make the playoffs first.

Allison stands to collect $4.5 million from the Leafs if he reaches playing 70 games. That's big bucks

Seems Quinn has asked JFjr for defenceman help as the farm replacements have proven inadequate replacements for injured McCabe. Additionally they must know McCabe recovery from his groin tear is going to take longer than expected. The 4 game losing skid is most likely to look like a 6 game losing streak after Mon nite against Ottawa. And if this happens, falling in the standings & out of playoff spot, you just know the TO sports media will have a field day. Quinn cannot let it get this far & outta hand otherwise he may not be here next year & play into JFjr's hands of replacing him with the heir apparent, Paul Maurice, from the farm. That's why Quinn wants to get Leetch back - familiarity with Leafs & vice versa. McCabes point shot is sorely missed & Leetch's is better.

With Allison gone, Stajan may move up & get more ice time

A new NHL

All GM`s and Fans would never of guessed this new NHL would look like this. I think the Leafs are just gonna ride this season out and sign some good young talent in the off season.

All that makes good sense and im not at all begging to keep Allison, but I still dont think Leetch is what we need. If they know that mcCabe is going to be out for the long term than sure, but at least get moving on getting a big stud back there too. Its the most glaring hole on the team and thats not been more obvious than during their losing streak and watchout this weekend. Id love to see Stajan get more icetime, and again im not saying Allison is untouchable by any means but id rather see another type of dman come back if any one is going anywhere

I hope the Leafs don’t acquire Leetch, the man is 38 years old and his best years are behind him. To trade Allison for Leetch would be a huge mistake.
