Should ultimate fighting be an event in the Olympics?

Rio in 2016 would be an obvious games to start given Brazil's presence in the sport.

Not do-able. MMA fighters take a pounding. How are you gonna have 4 fights in 14 days?
Olympic boxers only fight 3 rounds, with protective head gear.

Also throw in the public perception that still treats it as a fringe sport, yes it is huge amongst some of the young people but can you picture the suits at the IOC approving this? It's past history where it was basically a bar brawl with no weight classes and no rules also rules it out, damn shame because I love the sport.

Or dancing horses.... Oops already there

MMA makes sense - lots of countries competing and huge audience. It would be very competitive.

They would have to limit the fights though as HH suggested - i.e. headgear

MMA, Mixed Mens affection. Watching dudes hug each other, fits right in with synchronized swimming I guess.

Actually it is more of a sport than trampoline or synch swimming and considering they are willing to let cripples break the rules and run with blades out of political correctness, it isn't as if they have the moral authority to keep any sport out.

Wrestlers and judo guys fight multiple matches in a day. The Canadian who wom a medal for us looked pretty battered. I laugh when sprinters or swimmers take more than one day while the wrestlers might fight several times in one day.

But yeah the wear and tear would be brutal. Mind you back in the day the UFC used to do one night tournaments.

The UFC have done a lot to legitimize the sport by adding weight classes, judging system and rules but I'm happy to not see it in the olympics.

MMA works better as a Professional Sport...

It would be better to see a couple of sports that are used in MMA be included in the Olympics...

The two I would like to see are Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai...

The only problem is that both sports although popular and growing throughout the world would probably be dominated by their home countries (Brazil and Thailand)....

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu would work but MMA as we know it, never.

And at first Brazil would dominate but in time once the other countries got involved there would be a more level playing field.

Just like what happened to us in hockey I suppose.

Where are you going to find any MMA fighters that aren't juicers? Remember they have testing at the Olympics, not in Dana White's octagon.

Obviously you're in the majority of people who know nothing about mma, drug testing is rampant and once a fighter is caught punishment is swift, no 16 year old girls destroying world records in the UFC, just ask Cyborg or Barnet

I was shocked to see him competing. The olympics have officially lost all credibility. No need for slippery slope arguments. They've slipped right off the slope.

The best MMA'ers wouldnt be allowed to compete anyways, I highly doubt the UFC would let them without taking a huge chunk of the gate receipts, which the IOC wont allow.

So you'd be left with 2nd rate MMA'ers

Dana White knows marketing and in order to legitimize his sport he has put it out there that his athletes are clean. I'm sure they are because you say so as well.
