Makes ya wonder (if you have kids this age)...how much shit they actually have to contend with on a day to day basis. I remember when I was in High School...the biggest thing you had to worry about was getting your ass kicked in the school yard.

This is madness...when will it end??

what will happen like they do with some schools in the States. One door only and it will have a metal detector. At least it may be a start.

It's been good to know ya
I feel so sorry for the Mother. I hope if anyone was bothering him that he confided everything to his Mom in hopes of finding who did this. :(

Agreed it's easy to throw blame around. In this case there's plenty to share between parents, the kid and possibly anyone who might have known that this was going to happen.

680news.com also has the story mentioned on their site but does not mention that the shooting took place in North York. If it happened in Scarborough, they would mention that in the headline....can't wait for someone to blame Scarborough for this.

I agree but, quite often they don't even know what their "lovely" kids are capable of these days ... :(
Sorry, but while kids seem to be smarter than I/we were back in the 70's if you've got a band seed on your hands, you know it!

I was listening to the radio after this happened and the DJ was saying that back in the day, the worst thing that could happen is you get your ass wooped. (and maybe a couple of bruises etc). I remember not so much highschool as senior public school there were these two a-holes that took it as their personal mission to make my life miserable. From stealing my bike and then leaving it miles away, to physically punishing me at every oppurtunity etc etc etc. The cops were told countless times, the school officials too but "every kid has a right to an education". I tell you, if I could have gotten my hands on a gun I would have done them. (no doubt about it).

Now where this happened is anyone surprised? I mean Jane-Finch? Come on, that is about the worst area in the city. It was bad when I was younger and hung out up there and now it's worse.

Let's not go off the deep end like we Canadians normally do. This is one incident in how many years? Now if this happens again within 2 or 3 yrs, then yeah, I'd say we have a problem.

Now this next part won't fly very well for some but the story I heard is that the victim was screwing around with firecrackers and threw one at the one who shot him. Now we don't have the WHOLE story but I can surmise that the shooter might not have known it was firecrackers and thought maybe someone was taking shots at him and turned and fired.

Now they will probably paint the kid who was killed as a sweet angel but a) he had his hands on illegal fireworks b) he wasn't just walking down the street minding his own business and c) he had to have known that he might get into trouble throwing the things at people. He didn't deserve to die but, as Kitty Forman used to say: don't poke the bear!!!

I know this isn't the most relevant thing to this tragedy, but I can't help thinking: where is this guy's father?

Jane & Finch. Is anyone surprised?

Another dead black kid.

That community needs to take some responsibility for itself and stop blaming "society" for it's ongoing tendency to kill its own members.

This kid sounds like he was screwing around, and screwed around with the "wrong guy", but you know what else? The "wrong guy" has not been arrested yet, even though there were no doubt dozens and dozens of witnesses who knew everyone.

So long as the community goes on protecting and harbouring and glorifying criminals it's going to be victimized by them.

If I say anything, it'll just turn out all wrong.

i will mention that the young fellow who died had a different surname than his mother and when they interviewed his brother in this mornings Sun he had yet another surname.

No opinion, just pointing out facts. that should be allowed?????

Seems guns are easier for kids to get these days than ever before.

Let's not pretend gun violence is only a concern for black youth with single parents in less than desirable neighbourhoods. Didn't some white girls drown their mother? What about columbine (white)? What about V Tech (asian)?

It's this type of head in the sand type attitude that's going to be the problem years from now. I think we are seeing problems with obesity and intelligence. So much is being automated. I'd be interested in employers views on resumes that they get and the intelligence of new young recruits. Standards are being dropped to meet the decrease rather than efforts to raise the kids to the bar (e.g. a kid can't be held back in elementary school unless their parents agree).

I admit I'm not tough enough to lie about my age when I was 16 and go off and fight a war. Half these kids can't even do their laundry or go to university without their parents calling the profs.

Discipline with kids is at an all time low and so is the presence of parents. With two parents working how much time is spent with their kids? On average I'd say significantly less.
