Shoe Thrower released early from Iraqi Prison

By Collegian Staff | September 15, 2009

The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at then-President George W. Bush, was released from prison Tuesday.

Zaidi’s 3-year sentence was shortened and he was released due to having no previous criminal record.

Zaidi told a news conference that Iraqi guards tortured him with whippings and electric shocks during his nine-month detention. He was missing at least one front tooth.

In regards to the shoes, one wealthy Saudi offered millions for them, Arab women have written love letters to Zaidi and a giant shoe statue was erected in Saddam Hussein’s hometown before the Iraqi government had it removed.

He's still around and is guilty of a whole lot that could still come back to haunt him.

I heard that the shoe-thrower is giving up journalism after his stint in prison.
He says he hopes to become either a well-heeled businessman, or a soul singer.

please, that guy was given journalist credentials for a high level press conference and abused them for his own political feelings. It's an embarrassment to professional reporters. He should never work in that field again so good that he realizes that.

.... Give it a rest Papasmerf - the Shoe Thrower demonstrated a very large degree of restraint - and wee "Georgie Boy Bush" is very very lucky that it was only a pair of shoes!!!

.... I'd like to see Georgie Boy Bush make a return visit - hehehehe - to get what he truly deserves !!!!!! -- Of course he never will - he's too cowardly !

Actually I'm still impressed with George's ability to duck without even blinking. Must have had practice.

true, but still the expectation is that he'd act professional as a journalist, not a protester.
So many here see him as a hero. He acted as a thug and was arreated but they felt it was funny.

I would like to meet them in public and toss a shoe at them and then see their reaction. Fact is their hate has clouded their vision.

George didn't hate the American people at all. He just didn't particularly give a rip.
