Most people who aren't doing that well financially stick to buying stuff cheap that come from overseas regardless if the material can be harmful to them. Bringing a lot of industries home will hurt profit for most due to labour/overhead in North America. Zara is known to use certain materials in their clothing line too.

Some things have changed. In the old days, you saw the people you had enslaved. You couldn't escape the ugly truth of slavery. Now they're on the other side of the world. Out of sight, out of mind.

They all do and mark stuff up. Most of them are owned by the same parent company and production workers will stop during the shift and start putting the other brands logo on shirts that are very similar and such. It's just how most major businesses operate compared to some small company.
