The San Francisco-based escort website MyRedbook.com was shut down by federal authorities Wednesday.
CNN reports that the shutdown was part of a broad FBI crackdown on child prostitution, citing anonymous law enforcement sources.

During the raid, two people were reportedly arrested on suspicion of running the website. KTVU reports the arrests were made at a home in Mountain View. No other details about the suspects were immediately released.

In a statement posted on MyRedbook's homepage, the FBI said the domain was subject to civil and criminal forfeiture. "This seizure is based on probable cause to believe that this domain name was involved in money laundering derived from racketeering based on prostitution in violation of state and federal law," the statement says.

That's too bad ... that was a good site. I wonder if the money laundering charges are a trumped up charge so they could shut down an escort site or if that is what was happening in fact ... ?

The site had a lot of traffic if I recall correctly ... I wonder where that traffic will end up?

In the US, all money generated in relation to prostitution is money laundering. What amazes me is that they are using the guise of "trafficking and child prostitution" given the size of the site. I think probably the only shady thing was that they ran an advertising venue for prostitution and pissed someone off. Most of the well run escort businesses in the US give wide berth to anything else illegal to try and minimize the risk. Mix prostitution with drugs, underage or any other illegal activity is a guaranteed fail legally and the business owners aren't stupid...

It's part of the bullshit crap similar to that MacKay/ Harper are using to gain public support by attaching child sex on their moral crusade on prostitution. This ploy is popular in dictatorships as in China where opposition leaders were arrested under 'porn' charges.
