I thought that streetwalking didn't exist anymore with the creation of online advertising sites, the City TV survey video was surprising to me as I can clearly identify City of Toronto, signage, garbage cans and buildings in the depicted videos but still can't make out where that would be. The women in the video also look a lot older than 19+ which City TV focus of article say are underage. Sex-trafficking and working against will is highly concerning, but underage being forced to work is despicable.

I have no faith in what CITY-TV says. None. I see their vans everywhere looking for a cheap story but I never watch them

A serious study needs to be done so we can see if C-36 is working to stop exploitation or actually increasing it, but not a study by CITY-TV. No way.

I would like to believe the politicians who enacted C-36 are doing such a study but I have my doubts. Is that not the Senates job, to check on the efficacy of bills passed ? after all, the Senate gave the bill passage , so you think they would want to know if it is working or not. C-36 was not passed to stop consensual sex for $ but was meant to stop expoltation. Stopping explotation is C-36 raison d'être. So, is it working? Where are the scientific studies and why does not "news" networks like CITY TV demand them ? The answer is they are bad news networks like all commercial news. Shows like "The Agenda" with Steve Paiken is a rare jem.

Commercial news is trash.

This was a terrible report - they jumped from asking teens if they knew about sex trafficking, to cyber safety, to the Montreal Massacre to missing indigenous women.

It was very hard to follow the through thread beyond we are talking about women and violence. The headline of "Sex Trafficking" stayed the entire time, though I am pretty certain most of this jumbled story had nothing to do with that at all. I don't even understand what they consider sex trafficking from this report...

Lame and very misleading.

Some of those street walkers were teens...20 - 30 years ago.

It's conflation and telling a message they want to spread without real proof in hopes of pushing an agenda. They now want to go from underage to all prostitution with an Ontario Conservative government at the wheel.

Cops and Conservatives always try to imply that most prostitution is human trafficking, pimped minors and drug addicts, even though they know that is not the case. It helps them sell their agenda.

There's an issue with younger girls/women that work for pimps/boyfriends out of hotels.

In Canada, like the U.S. I believe there are well funded groups that get $millions of donations for the "sex trafficking" and "child prostitution" hype and fund grants to local LE A Tucson paper just reported $1.6 million grant to LE to fo arrest peope to stop sex trafficking. The headline was something like Why are massive grants for sex trafficking used to arrest private consenting adults?"

At least in the major cities of Canada where LE follows the risk reduction model of the Supreme Court, efforts are going after "real" pimps and traffickers. Unlike the U.S. model where the boyfriend that drives his girlfriend to appoitments for safety is defined as a "pimp" and since two people working togther might be charged with a criminal enterprise felony with serious prison terms.

There are true abuse cases and real pimps - especially on the streets - that are not just the pretend victims LE goes after in the U.S. At least in Toronto and most major cities in Canada, it seems LE is focused on the real victims vs private consenting adults.

It is exactly that. I don't dismiss the fact the sex trafficking exists. I don't however know if underage teenage girls working for/with boyfriends in hotels is trafficking. It seems like that is just some misguiding decision making and unfortunate power dynamics. I am sure everyone on this board would agree that underaged coerced sex work isn't acceptable, but this news piece does little to highlight anything compelling or provide any real actionable info IMO.

The cops have been dealing with the sex trade industry as long as it has been here and they have not shut it down. The conservatives and any other politician will not shut it down either (despite the hysteria that gets created).

Why? Because it will not go away no matter what rules are put in place. The current situation is not perfect but it is at least controlled and maintained. The politicians are happy because the services are primarily performed behind closed doors and they are getting a small slice of the business in the form of taxes and licensing. The cops are happy because again, it is behind closed doors. If they fuck too much with the current setup it will create havoc and chaos which both parties do not want to deal with.

There will always be some form of human trafficking as there is a market (allbeit a sick one) and as humans we are pretty good at treating others like shit.
