A rivalry gone awry

First of all, I may have been guilty of stirring the pot in the past. For that I don't apologize. But I have NEVER seen this board get so ugly and, frankly, uncomfortable because of a sports rivalry.

We owe this hostile environment to just one person, Jim Pansey. All of the other Senators fans on this board have discussed the rivalry in calm, measured tones, with just the right amount of taunting. The Leaf fans have responded in kind, making for a very pleasurable and interesting discussion.

Not any more.

The Senators got spanked last night. They should have won, but the Leafs had more heart. That's not the reason for this thread.

The reason is we have seven Leaf/Sens threads on the first page alone!

I would like it if everyone could just take the rhetoric down about 12 notches. The occasional "Leafs suck" or "Senators blow" comment is welcome, but not the full-on flame-fest we've degenerated into.

This is not an official request. I don't make it as a TERB Moderator, but as a hockey fan.

Thanks.

And I do realize the irony of me posting an eighth thread on the subject....

I would have posted something about that Goober but my new years resolution was to keep the "dead horse beating" to a minimum. That and I'm not really sure how to spell ironie...ironi...i-Ron-y....

Ah Fark it.

Hey, I *tried* to solve the problem - a little thread called "The Final (?) Sens - Leafs Thread". Not many people - yourself included, Goob - posted in it.
I guess that's life.

How about we lock the other ones and put a moratorium on new ones other than "The Final" and the "Wager" threads. Seems reasonable.

Yeah, we *MIGHT* have done that when Pansey was opening up thread after thread. That probably would have alleviated the problem to some degree, no? ... Too late now.

What Rivalry. You need two teams for a rivalry. I only see one......THE LEAFS.........Why is it that only Sen's fans think the Leafs/ Sen's have a rivalry. In order to have a rivalry the sen's would have to beat the Leafs in a meaningful game, and that has yet to happen.

Franlky, I found it difficult to try to keep up with all the threads that had been started in regards to the Sens/Leafs. A certain Sens fan led the charge by creating these threads and as pointed out some Leaf fans responded with their own threads in retribution. Is it me or does it seem that some people have way to much time on their hands? Do they even work?

Being Saturday and having a little time on my hands ( I work during the week you know!), I actually counted 10 threads these do not include Kat's 2 "challenge threads". Ten threads is a bit overboard and it does waste bandwith. So I agree with Goober that we should try to limit ourselves to the "challenge threads" alone. I believe that all three members of TEAM OTTAWA paid our dues in these threads as per the fun arrangement made.

scubadoo - Totally agree with you. If anyone wishes to but the wagers on hold till the post season, thats fine. It will give things time to cool down - I hope. I'll try and help cap the number of threads.. As a GM, I'm willing to try ;)

Kathleen

I don't think we need to put off the bet till the Playoffs as we have already experienced rounds 1 & 2. Next up is round 3 (March 27 - at Toronto) and round 4 ( April 3 - at Ottawa ).

Things appear to be cooling down now ( *crosses fingers * ). If everyone just stops posting in other threads and posting new threads (other than round 3 challenge thread) we should be fine.

If Jim doesn't stop posting threads Goober and I might have to take matters into our own hands.
