I just got my custom floral arrangement delivered to my residence today. It's absolutely stunning (made from silk flowers). However, I get the feeling that it's a bit larger than I expected it to be, since it looked smaller in the store. The arrangement is 50 inches tall, approximately. I'm planning on putting it in my livingroom area next to my wing chair. Unfortunately, I will have to wait in order to see how it looks when it's completely set up. Reason being, the mahogany side table I am going to put the vase on is still on order from the states. The table with the flower arrangement will be in front of a window, which is 10 feet long, and 5 feet high, that starts about 2 1/2 feet off the ground and goes to the ceiling. Any thoughts on this one??

Thanks.

A lot depends on how high off the ground the table is so Im assuming it's a bit lower than the bottom of the window say 2 feet? That would make the arrangement a total of 6 feet and 2 inches which would pretty much wipe out your window view. Don't forget flower arrangements don't just stand high they are spread out to so you'd lose a lot of the rest of the window. Is that why you're going for that arrangement? To be honest a flower arrangement that high is usually put in corners to soften a room's hard edges. Im not so sure it would work out well in front of a window that is only, what, 2 to 3 feet higher(u did say window went to the ceiling and ceilings tend to be around 8 to 10 feet depending on the design.
That's what I thought too. I just wanted a flower arrangement that would compliment the room, such as something you may expect to find in a five star hotel suite, for instance. Again, I won't know for sure until I get the table set up as well but my fear is that the scale of the vase will not be proportionate to the rest of the room. I called the store about it today, and the lady said not to worry about it, as it would look stunning... really stand out etc. but I'm not too sure.

Not to mention that it cost me $300.00... Is there a way I can tell for sure if the scale is correct or not??

Take a picture of the room....

I mean specifically that portion that includes the plant. Take it from many angles.

The picture will give you a 2d view of the area...as opposed to the virtualu 3d look our eyes give us.

What would the room look like in a photo? My guess is it's too large. Why? You are questioning it already. Your gut instincts tell you it's too big.

It has to be a balance of elements. If the flowers are too large..it's out of whack. Simple.

Cut down the height.

So take some shots frm a camera on a tripod...do not move the tripod or change the zoom ratio. Let the camera go into auto mode. You do not care if anything is over or underexposed in these pics. You are simply looking to see the visual difference with the flowers or without.

The shots you get will show you whatr you need to see. it's either too big or too wide.

Based on your dimensions..it should not be a problem. Larger spaces often suit large flower placements.

No one person can tell you what is the right look. Test it out..look at some test shots...ya do that that hollywood frame thing...but see it through the eyes of those first seeing the room. What would be the first initial impression. Is it what you want it to be?

Go from there.

I did some measuring, and I think it will look OK after all. I know the table I'm getting is 25 inches tall, so I placed the vase on a stool which is the same height, just to get an idea of what to expect. Thanks to the size of my window, it seems to fit right in.
