Sending text to a landline phone...

I just had someone tell me today you can send a text message to a home phone. He sent me a text message to show me, when I answered it a voice message said I was receiving a text message from a Rogers subscriber, and press 1 for the message. The voice message said....Rob F.U. (for a joke).

My landline is bell, will it work also or does it have to be on a rogers network?

The call was from a Rogers cell to a Bell landline.
