Okay here's a question. Have a wired network consisting of modem to router to switch to laptop 1,2, xbox360, ps3, asus o player.

My laptops have firewalls, anti virus and anti spyware programs running

xbox and ps3 are password protected.

My router is password protected

I have an external hooked up to the laptop so that I can watch movies using an asus o player in the basement.

Got the asus to be able to view the folders but it couldn't see the video files.... went back to the laptop and found that if I allowed all users full control on the external that now in addition to seeing hte folders I could see the actual media files plus view them.

Is this a security risk?

Are there other security risks that I should be considering?

as long as you are within the Home network you are fine, or you can create a user for your asus and give access to that

From your description, your first risk isn't whether your router is password protected, but whether it's set up to allow any admin access "from the network" (i.e. from the Internet or WAN, not the local LAN).
