Sean Connery quits Hollywood
BANG
August 02, 2005

(BANG) - Sean Connery is quitting acting and says only a Mafia hitman would persuade him to change his mind.

The legendary 'James Bond' star says he is fed up with "the idiots" making movies in Hollywood.

The 74-year-old told the New Zealand Herald newspaper: "I'm fed up with the idiots... the ever-widening gap between people who know how to make movies, and those who green light them.

"I don't say they're all idiots - I'm just saying there is a lot of them. It would almost need a Mafia-like offer I couldn't refuse to do another movie."

Meanwhile, the actor, who commands around £10 million a film, revealed he had pulled out of a lucrative autobiography deal because the publisher wanted to delve too deeply into his private life.

He claimed he didn't want to answer inaccuracies in the tell-all book.

The star said: "I realised I was going to be spending the rest of my life trying to correct these inaccuracies."

I personally don't blame 007 for quitting. After all, he is 74 and starring roles for septuagenarians are few and far between. The powers that be probably want him to perform roles that he finds abhorrent or downright degrading, such as light comedies or as a second banana to some younger star.

He should just soak up the sun in his Bahamas home and enjoy his life. He has more than earned it, and he shouldn't have to deal with the assholes that run the studios anymore.

Good for Sean, I can't say I blame him. Comes a point when you tire of the bullshit, and I guess he's at that point.

He'll always be remembered at the greatest Bond, that and those red diapers he wore in Zardoz.

:D

At his age and at Hollywoods current opulence he could command bigger bucks than most of todays younger stars. Its great for him that he doesnt feel he has to. I for one will miss him.

Certainly he was in a number of silly films, but always managed to pull it off with enormous class. He should be given a special award just for having to play second fiddle to the likes of Kevin Costner and Nicolas Cage.

his time is over. he's way too old to be the leading man/action guy anymore. it was downright creepy to watch him in his 70s playing leading man to Catherine Zeta Jones a few years ago. but those are the only roles he's good at. I hated his attempts at light comedies (e.g. Family Business) he knows he sucks in those roles. that's why he's quitting.

He was and always will be James Bond. He was too identified with that role to do much else. He should have taken the role of Gandalf if he wanted to be remembered for something else.
I am sure people remember his oscar winning performance. That was is best performance and one the best performances of the 80s.

Pure class and one of my 5 fave actors of all time

Heaven, definately Heaven
Sean, meet me!!

I wish Sean Connery would meet me. An honour, indeed! He certainly can trust me and I will take care of his business, by making him in charge of the business. The old phrase by Sean Connery sticks in my mind when he was offered to do "Live and Let Die" (which Moore ended up doing). Connery: "There's two things I want to own in life. A golf course and a bank. I already have the golf course, and now I'm making my way to the bank. I'm not interested." And if I recall, this makes "League of Extrodinary Gentlemen" his last film. What a decent movie to sign off on.

He's right, there are a tremendous amount of idiots in Hollywood, but what's more frustrating are the idiots and pigs that actually block the industry from easy innovation, creation and profit making for small companies, directors, writers and distributors. This would create a huge amount of work and jobs, but it's blocked due to the high risk involved and high costs incurred to make good films and good profit. It's obvious the equipment these "big directors" use are inflated in cost to keep those who can innovate out. That is why I don't approve of films like "Lords of the Rings" because the trilogy was a model of shutting out innovation with a 10 year project and distribution agreement that flooded the system, hypnotise people to do low-wage work, and when it all ended, everyone on the project with their own ideas were too old to make their own. It is not like the Japanese movie industry model where so much product and innovation is created, there's always an audience around to buy enough of it short term to either make more or create something new. If only Hollywood could do that for everyone. Or if only all of us, individually, could do our own Star Wars and become greats like Lucas.

Just people going to Hollywood to "make it" and end up becoming a waitress, coke-addict, or are forced to hide from the hip-hop stars stealing everyone's money with thuggery and militia attitudes is not America! We all know, who the waitresses are. The Whitney Houston's, the Pauly Shores, and the Peter Jacksons (the thief). I'll have a super-burger with fries and a Kong drink, Mr. Jackson. That film is going down the tubes.

Gyaos.
