Sean Avery: underrated?

Anytime Sean Avery's name is mentioned, he's treated like some sort of joke or sideshow. But so far he's been the best player in the Rangers/Atlanta series. Today he had a goal and assist, but that doesn't tell the whole story. He was working his ass off out there. Backchecking, taking hits and getting back up, logging a ton of icetime, and yes, instigating a lot. He was the whole package out there, and he deserves a lot more respect than he gets. Come to think of it, the Rangers didn't look like a playoff team most of the season, but improved around the time Avery was traded to them. Not a coincidence.

On a related note, Atlanta's "skill" players like Hossa, Kovalchuk and Kozlov have all been invisible.

He was a joke in L.A., however, he's changed his tune since he relocated cross country. Location,location,location, that's the key. When he was in L.A. he was most likely influenced by the Hollywood crowd and felt he had to be a loudmouth to be recognized. It was all about him and nobody cared. Forsberg is no joke,definately not.

i don't think he was a joke in LA, either... rather our media only gets the worst of whatever comes out of california and makes it a story. ie, they tried to make him into a Dennis Rodman... he's hardly that.

Right now Avery might be the most popular athlete in New York. The MSG fans are treating him like a god. Last night when he and Kovalchuk got thrown out, the whole arena was chanting his name. He's lit a fire under that whole team.

Hard to believe that the Rangers acquiring him may has more of a playoff impact than Nashville getting Forsberg or Dallas getting Nagy.

their playability is not on the same level as the Ottawa/Pittsburgh series or the Buffalo/NYI series.
