Although well past its "best before date" in our forces, the
Sea King was, and is, (when it's serviced) an admirable aircraft and we're not the only country still using them. Most interestingly, it's the helicopter the much-loved POTUS uses to go back and forth to the airport and Camp David—Marine One—so it' must have something (probably the safety factor of two engines) to recommend it. I suspect what we did wrong was buy too few to begin with, thus worked them much too hard and then cheaped on new parts by cannibalizing the tired fleet.
