Just be ready and bold to say a Big "NO" for imposing a $ 10 Tax on T.V. subcribers. Why should a common subscribers pay additional tax on their TV's when they are already paying a very hefty package rates to giant Server Companies like Rogers, Bell, & some other companies providing cable T.V. to cities like Oakville and other cites in Ontario every month.
If CRTC wants to impose any additional Taxes, they should easily squeeze the Big Time Rip-Off Server Companies who have made billions since last so many years squeezing their common subscribers, if anyone does a research of major North American Cities, or Provinces, Ontario Canada would be the costliest Province where its poor subscribers are paying heavily every month for T.V. Packages, Cell Phone Packages, Auto Insurance, Monthly Bank Fees, & Heavy Taxes by its Government on every step they take in their lives.
Its high time there should be a Campaign to say NO, Thank-you, for accepting any further payment of $ 10 Tax on your home T.V.'s
Its high time the local MPP, & Councillors should also join the common public
& compell C.R.T.C. to impose any further Tax on Server Companies, instead of
subscribers, plus due to recessionary measures there should Ban on Server Companies to increase any further rates on any packages of TV/PVR/CellPhone/or any other services they provide to its consumers for atleast 3-years from immediate effect, or else immediately allow other Server Companies who are willing to come into Ontario and offer their services at much cheaper rates,
then the 3-Big Giant Rip-off Server Companies Rogers, Bell Telus and others.
Even if 10~15,000 subscribers firmly says NO for any additional imposition of Tax on TV and are ready to disconnect their Cable Connections, the Govt, as well as the server companies would bend down on their knees. Its time to show Unity for safe-guarding your own rights. Already people are worried and confused at the HST which is being imposed by the Government makes their life more difficult, which is surely going to hit ontario families in a real hard way, even to die in Canada has become very costly:) with new HST imposition.

This has been discussed before, of course, and according to the stated position of the CableCo's, any additional costs should not be passed along to consumers (as the CableCo's are profitable, and according to their position, cost increases should not be passed along while you're profitable).

The simple fact remains that the ad-only revenue model is failing when it has to compete with programming supported by subscriber fees on top of ad revenue.

From news reports today, the CRTC started by saying that any customers should not be required to pay any more.

I really don't know which side is righter but the cable company's commerial annoys me. They say the local companies want a $10 tax. What they actually want is to charge the cable companies. The cable companies are the ones who want us to pay for it.

I wouldn't trust either side.

As both are in it for the themselves and not the consumer.

Of course they do..... how are the going to keep up their profit margins if they don't increase our rates to cover their increased costs?.....

My feelings on this issue is that anyone who has cable is getting all the local channels. Even if you subscribe to the basic cable you get the local stations. You can get all these channels for free with an antenna. The cable/satellite companies provide the TV stations millions of viewers and they get higher ratings than the specialty channels, therefore get alot more in ad revenue.

The cable companies are just providing the consumers a convenient alternative to antennas, which we pay for.

You really don't want to know
I do enjoy hearing CTV rage on...which is such hypocritical BS since one of thier shareholders is Bell.

I mean until a few years ago the name of the company was CTV Bell Globemedia, so it's fun to see them fighting themselves on both sides of the argument.

Just as much as Rogers who also owns a series of brodcasters too.

Love it if we had the choice of selecting individual channels rather than packages. If we did half the garbage channels (that we reluctantly have to pay for) would be gone.
