Hey guys I was wondering if you could help me out with something. I'm thinking of transferring to Laurentian University from UofT for my second year of studies because they are offering me Co-op for my program. I've never been to Sault Ste. Marie and was wondering if any of you terbites have? Any idea of how the city, people, nightlife is? Someone told me there are plenty of KKK members up there. I just don't want to suffer from any racial discrimination.

So any information about that city will help. Thanks alot guys.

Well all I have to say is you better check into where you are going. Laurention University is not in Sault Ste. Marie it is in SUDBURY the only University in Sault Ste. Marie is Algoma University and Sault College.

As for KKK I do believe you have been given some false information, however I can attest to the fact that yes there are not nearly as diverse as Toronto would be, but Sudbury is not doing so bad with various races, Sault Ste. Marie on the other hand is majority Italian and white. With only a few people of different races. Sudbury is larger than Saukt Ste. Marie and has some pretty good bars, they will always have "The Solid Gold" Strip club!!!

Night-life? Fogettaboutit!

You will find 2 no touching strip clubs, some great Italian restaurants, a wonderful tour train ride in the fall, 1 casino, and a whole lot of people heading across the border to Sault Michigan for the nightlife and the other nearby casinos. The skiing is good at Searchmount, the fishing is good everywhere.
There are some escorts, but I haven't experienced any, and 3 yrs ago, there weren't any MPs, that may have changed.
Get a DVD player, a surround sound system, and a highspeed internet connection, you're gonna need it!

I live in Sault Ste. Marie and yes it is economically depressed, but I would disagreee that there is a lot of crime. You can walk anywhere day or night without having to worry.

There is not any KKK activity that I know of. It is not the most diverse community like Toronto, but is quiet and laid back. I don't think anyone will bother you.

There are two strip clubs with $20 contact dances and a few escort agencies - some better than others. No MPS.
